  'Antigua' Dessert Wine
Golden/amber in color from its long aging in French oak, the wine is a complex combination of nuts and orange-peel aromas. Thick and rich in the mouth, the nuts and orange-peel theme continues from the entry through the long finish, highlighted by the many subtleties from the fine brandy and time in the barrel.
Cabernet Sauvignon - Beckstoffer Clone Six
This is the fourth Merryvale vineyard-designated bottling from low-yielding Clone Six vines in the Beckstoffer familys Vineyard Georges III in Rutherford. The grapes were harvested on September 18th. The wine is very dark purple, rich and round with good density. This vineyard consistently shows fine texture and supple, balanced tannins.
Cabernet Sauvignon - Beckstoffer Vineyard X
2002 was Merryvale's fourth harvest from the Beckstoffer family's Vineyard X, just southwest of Brix Restaurant on the Oakville bench. The grapes were harvested September 27th, 28th and 30th. Merryvale has a long-term contract on the entire cabernet vineyard. We are happy to be able to bottle a vineyard-designated wine from these grapes. The wine is opaquely purple, dense and powerful.
  Chardonnay, Dutton Ranch
This Chardonnay was grown in Dutton Ranch's Searby Vineyard near occidental in the cool, foggy Russian River Valley. Tropical fruit notes combine with flavors reminiscent of baked apple resulting from barrel fermentation by native yeast in French oak. The wine stayed in barrels on light lees until it was racked and bottled unfiltered.
  Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard
This Chardonnay was grown by Larry Hyde in a block of his Carneros vineyard planted to a mix of flavorful, aromatic clones. Tropical fruit notes combine with flavors reminiscent of baked apple resulting from barrel fermentation by native yeast in French oak. The wine was in barrels on light lees until racking and bottling in April of 2005. Three years from release to reach maturity, with a plateau for another five years after that.
  Chardonnay, Starmont
We have used the fruit from many fine Chardonnay vineyards to make this wine. From the cool Carneros, on both the Napa and Sonoma sides, to a number of sites in the southern end of the Napa Valley, each vineyard provides subtly different character to the final blend. Native yeast fermentation in French oak barrels, alolactic fermentation and barrel aging on the lees all add to the wine’s richness and long finish. The wine has flavors reminiscent of apple, peach and pear and is round and silky.
Merlot - Beckstoffer Las Amigas Vineyard
This is the fifth year of a vineyard-designated Merryvale bottling from the Beckstoffer family's Las Amigas Merlot vineyard in Carneros. This modern planting of clones 181 and 314 is on a vertical, shoot-positioned trellis and is producing outstanding quality. In 2002 fruit was harvested very ripe on September 19th & 20th. Three of Merryvale's seven 2002 merlot lots from the Las Amigas vineyard were included in this blend. All the lots had similar characteristics of dark color, concentration, suppleness and balance.
  'Oakville Grade', Napa Valley
Deep and dark, this wine was made from grapes grown in two outstanding vineyards on the west side of Highway 29. It was aged in new French oak from traditional Bordeaux coopers, lightly fined with fresh egg whites and was bottled unfiltered.
  Pinot Noir, Carneros
This lot is part of Merryvale's third bottling of Pinot Noir from Carneros. Block A1 in the Stanly Ranch Vineyard is an old planting near the banks of the Napa River, buffeted by cool wind and fog from several directions.
  Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
This wine is a combination of four small lots from different blocks farmed by Ted Klopp in and around the small town of Sebastopol in western Sonoma County. The 2003 crop was relatively small and had ripening pushed along with a burst of early-September heat. Our aim was to gently extract all the flavor and color, then carefully develop the complexity of the wine through aging in French oak barrels coopered by Tonnellerie Remond. The wine shows excellent balance and varietal character.
  Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
This wine is a combination of small lots from a vineyard farmed by Ted Klopp in the small town of Sebastopol in western Sonoma County. The block is planted to the Swan clone, a mainstay of Sonoma Pinot Noir vineyards, which produces complex, but rather delicate wines. The 2004 crop was relatively small and was harvested relatively early due to warm, dry spring weather. Our aim was to gently extract all the flavor and color, then carefully develop the complexity of the wine through aging in French oak barrels coopered by Tonnellerie Remond. The wine shows excellent balance and varietal character, with a delicate tannin structure. This wine should develop complexity with three years in the bottle and hold for many years after that.
  'Profile', Napa Valley
Profile is a blend of many of our finest lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, chosen for their concentration, depth of flavor and fine tannin structure. This wine was aged in mostly new French oak chateau ferre barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is opulently structured and very dark.
  Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
The 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was blended from a number of vineyards throughout the mid and southern Napa Valley. Harvest was relatively early and all the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards performed very well giving us many excellent lots to choose from. A few barrels of one of our best Merlot lots went into the blend to round out the mouthfeel a little.
  Reserve Chardonnay, Carneros
This blend is entirely composed of wine made from flavorful and low-yielding Dijon clones. It was carefully assembled from our best lots from the cool Carneros viticultural area both in Napa and Sonoma. The flavor of the fruit is complemented by the toasty oak spice, richness and complexity of native yeast fermentation in new French oak barrels.
  Reserve Chardonnay, Carneros
This wine was carefully assembled from our best lots from the cool Carneros viticultural area both in Napa and Sonoma . It is mostly a combination of wines made from Dijon clones and flavorful and low-yielding See’s selection vines. Additionally, in 2003, a couple of lots from Clone 4 were also outstanding and are represented in this blend – a testament to the overall quality of the vintage. The flavor of the fruit is complemented by the toasty oak spice, richness and complexity of native yeast fermentation in new French oak barrels.
  Reserve Merlot, Napa Valley
The core of the 2001 Reserve Merlot blend consists of several lots from the Carneros region of Napa Valley as well as a nice one from just south of Yountville, both in the cooler, fog-influenced southern end of the valley. There are also some very rich lots from Oakville, both on the valley floor and from the eastern hills. We added a little Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville and Rutherford to add some complexity and dimension to the wine?s structure.
  Sauvignon Blanc, Juliana Vineyards
The 2005 harvest was nearly three weeks later than in 2004, with a crop size a little bigger than normal. This bottling from Juliana Vineyards in the Pope Valley region of the Napa Valley has more Semillon than in recent years, to temper the high acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc lots that are the core of the wine. We also used a little more new French oak barrels than in past years to add more toasty, spicy notes to the wine. Enjoy now through 2008.
  Semillon
The rich honey and fig-like character of the Semillon is complemented by the smoke and subtle spice from the toasty French oak. In the mouth there are subtle pear-like flavors. To preserve that delicate character, malolactic fermentation was prevented and, while the wine is on its lees during its time in barrels, those lees have not been stirred. This wine had a little bit of Sauvignon Blanc added to it to increase its acidity and balance the mouthfeel.

  'Silhouette' Chardonnay, Napa Valley
This wine was selected barrel-by-barrel from our finest Napa Valley Chardonnay lots. These vineyards are planted with either “See’s” vine selections or Dijon clones, each of which produce low yields and concentrated, intensely flavored fruit. Each lot was fermented in new French oak barrels from our favorite coopers. All of the wine was uninoculated and fermented with native yeast, a method that accentuates the richness of the wines mouthfeel. The wine is dense, rich and complex, with a long smoky, toasty oak finish.
  'Silhouette' Chardonnay, Napa Valley
This wine was selected barrel by barrel from our finest NapaValley Chardonnay lots. All of the lots were from the cool end of NapaValley, either in the windy Carneros or just north of the city limits of Napa. The vineyards are mostly planted with Dijon clones which produce low yields and concentrated, intensely flavored fruit. Each lot was fermented in predominantly new French oak barrels from our favorite coopers. All of the wine was uninoculated and fermented with native yeast, a method that accentuates the richness of the wine’s mouthfeel. The wine is dense, rich and complex, with a long smoky, toasty oak finish.
  Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
The 2002 vintage produced dark, concentrated Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend includes Merlot to round out the tannins, Cabernet Franc for additional aromatic complexity and Petit Verdot for dark fruit flavor. The wine was carefully racked and bottled unfiltered. Smooth and harmonious in its youth, it will reward a few years of cellaring with nuances of aroma that only time in the bottle provides.
  Starmont Merlot, Napa Valley
The 2002 vintage is the third bottling of Merryvale's Starmont Merlot. Comprised of individual lots from outstanding Napa Valley vineyards carefully selected for their rich flavors and structure, the blend includes Cabernet Sauvignon for its fullness of tannins and Cabernet Franc for its aromatic complexity. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, most of them new, and bottled unfiltered.
  Starmont Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Spring 2004 started very early with mild weather in March. The growing season was of average length but the early start lead to an early harvest. The relatively small crop of Sauvignon Blanc was fully ripe and concentrated in flavor with proper levels of acidity essential to the wine's structure and balance. The Semillon adds some richness to the potentially austere Sauvignon structure.

  Syrah, Dry Creek Valley
This wine is made from grapes grown in a vineyard on Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley bench, east of Dry Creek Road. It is very fat, rich and supple with the complex aromas and flavors that are unique to Syrah. It will develop into a delicious wine with a few years in the bottle.
  Syrah, Napa Valley
This wine comes from the Page-Nord Vineyard in Yountville. The vineyard has been used by several small producers to make vineyard-designated Syrahs. This is our second harvest from the vineyard and the wine has the distinctive varietal aromas that make Syrah the wonderful and eccentric relative at the party.
  Syrah, Napa Valley
This wine comes from the Page-Nord Vineyard in Yountville. The vineyard has been used by several small producers to make vineyard-designated Syrahs. The wines are often quite different depending on which winery made it, but there is always a common thread of dark color, peppery fruit and rich mouthfeel. This wine should develop complexity with five years in the bottle and hold for at least five years after that.
  Zinfandel, Jan Vineyard
This wine is from an old head-trained, spur-pruned, dry-farmed vineyard just south of St. Helena. It has the exuberant dark berry fruitiness that makes Zinfandel a pleasure to drink. The crop was very small in 2002 so there is even less of this wine than the usual minuscule amount. Characteristic of Zinfandel made with an emphasis on fruit rather than power, there will always be a zing of tartness at the core of the wines structure.
