Arger-Martucci Vineyards

Arger-Martucci Vineyards Welcome to our boutique family winery that is located in the heart of the Napa Valley in St. Helena, California. Founded in 1998, the partnership of Rich & Carol Martucci and Julie & Kosta Arger (pictured above, in order, from left to right) combines passion and patience with our promise to make hand-crafted wines of the finest quality and in limited quantities. Our vineyards, planted on gentle hillsides at 1,450 feet above the valley floor, give us a consistent source for the finest fruit. We are one of the few small family wineries with a public tasting room. Our limited-production varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, and a late-harvest Sauvignon Blanc we named "Dulcinea."

Arger-Martucci Vineyards address is 1455 Inglewood Avenue, St. Helena, California. From the town of Napa, travel north on Highway 29 eighteen miles toward St. Helena. From Highway 29 turn west on Inglewood Avenue at the Mobil gas station and travel 100 yards to our entrance on the left.

  Arger-Martucci Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2001 vintage presented us with a dilemma. The Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the Merlot and Cabernet Franc were all very intense wines. This vintage is composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The bouquet is one of tobacco and blank cherries. The flavor of intense Cabernet Sauvignon is immediately present on the palate and lingers. Because of the extended maceration, the tannins are soft and very "cherry," giving an intense "mouth feel" and a long, lingering finish. This wine is a mouthful now, but will cellar for ten to fifteen years. The Cabernet Sauvignon was picked at 24.8 Brix and received a total skin contact - maceration and fermentation - of 31 days. It was then aged in 50% French oak, 25% American oak and 25% Hungarian oak for a total of 20 months.
  Arger-Martucci Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from grapes grown on our Odyssey Vineyard property, 1,350 feet above the Napa Valley floor. The vines are pruned to yield approximately 3 tons per acre. This wine consists of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. The grapes underwent extended maceration on the skins for 32 days, and, after gentle pressing, was aged for 20 months in a combination of 40% French Nevers Oak, 30% Hungarian, and 30% American Oak from Virginia. The result is a truly "lush" Cabernet with "layers" of flavor. The bouquet gives hints of tobacco and chocolate, and then follows with a "silky" texture on the mouth, which is a result of the extended maceration. The flavor of Cabernet is intense, yet the softness on the palate and nuances of "toasty oak" gives a truly mouth-filling experience to this wine.
  Arger-Martucci Chardonnay
The 2002 Chardonnay is more lush than our 2001. The grapes were picked at 24.6 brix and barrel-fermented in 100% French oak. We believe that Chardonnay should be a food wine, hence the slightly lighter acidity in our 2002. The bouquet hints at honey and pear, with a full, lush, creamy finish. We believe this wine can be enjoyed for the next 3 to 4 years, as it will maintain its lushness.
  Arger-Martucci Dulcinea
This is truly a rarity from Arger-Martucci Vineyards. In November of 2002, Jeff Sowells, owner of Topaz Winery, located a small amount of botrytised Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon, and asked if we would be interested in purchasing them to make a dessert wine. Indeed we did, and with the help of Mr. Sowells, we produced this blend of two-thirds botrytised Sauvignon Blanc and one-third botrytised Semillon. The grapes were harvested at 37 brix and after fermentation retained a residual sugar of 11.3%. This wine is the ultimate in a rich, sauternes-style dessert wine. The bouquet is one of subtle apricots and peaches that follow through in the mouth with wonderfully balanced sweetness and acidity. This wine is the perfect finish to a meal or with fruit to complement its flavors.
  Arger-Martucci Odyssey
The 2002 Odyssey is our first-ever release of a proprietary red wine based on the Cabernet varieties. The grapes for this blend are grown in our Odyssey Vineyard property 1,350 feet above the valley floor and the wine is heavily influenced by Cabernet Franc, which makes up 40% of the blend. The remainder of the blend is comprised of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% merlot with 1% Petite Verdot. The yield from these vines is low at 3 tons per acre. Each varietal in this blend underwent extended maceration on the skins for 31 to 32 days. We believe this gives our wines a silkier texture and more intense fruit extraction. The wine was aged in a combination of France Nevers oak and Hungarian oak for 20 months, and then bottled in September of 2004. The Cabernet Franc contributes a violet-like perfume in addition to giving roundness and elegance to the blend. The small percentage of merlot adds softness in the mouth and a touch of chocolate. The violet-like bouquet carries through with a silky feel in the mouth, which bursts with Cabernet flavors and finishes with the nuances of oak.
  Arger-Martucci Pinot Noir
The 2002 Pinot Noir was harvested at 24.8 brix in late September. The color is deep garnet with a ruby edge. It was aged for 14 months in 100% French oak. The bouquet is one of black cherry with a hint of figs. The black cherry really carries through on the palate. This wine fills the mouth with a velvety texture, yet retains good acidity for longevity. We believe this is a classic “Carneros” Pinot Noir with the structure to improve tremendously over the next five years.
  Arger-Martucci Syrah
The 2003 Syrah was harvested at 24.8 brix from our “Odyssey Vineyard” in mid-October. The acids were excellent giving wonderful flavors to the grapes. The grapes were “cold macerated” for 72 hours then fermented on the skins for 26 days. The resultant wine is an enormous mouthful. The bouquet is one of classic “white pepper” with an intense black cherry, which follows through on the palate. Due to its incredible intensity, 3% Merlot from the same vineyard was blended into the wine to soften its “feel” in the mouth. This is the most intense Syrah we have ever produced. Drinkable now, it will clearly improve for several years.
  Arger-Martucci Viognier
The 2004 Viognier is perhaps our best ever. Harvested at 26 brix, the grapes from the Russian River region were “cold” fermented in stainless steel then transferred to “neutral” French puncheons. A light fining was done, leaving this wine with maximum freshness. The bouquet expresses intense melon and peaches, characteristic of Viognier. The wine has a very high glycerin content giving a very rich feel that coats the mouth. The complex peach and melon flavors carry through on the palate with a hint of pumpkin-like spice. We hope you enjoy this wonderful wine with food, or just sipping on the veranda.
