Caroline Cellars

Caroline Cellars Caroline Cellars is a family owned and operated business in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We have been growing grapes on our property since 1978 (selling to other wineries), and opened Caroline Cellars in 2002 with both the 2000 and 2001 vintages ready for sale. We specialize in quality VQA wines, Icewines, and a small selection of fruit wines. The winery is named after our beloved mother and grandmother, Caroline Lakeit, who passed away in 1990 - although she wasn't with us when we opened, this dream wouldn't have been possible without her many years of love and support.

  Baco Noir (VQA)
Rich and earthy on the nose, with plummy undertones, the palate of this wine is full bodied and fruit forward with cherry and blackberry notes, but has a defined spicy and smoky finish. This is a yummy everyday wine. Drink now for fresh fruitiness, or age for a few years for more complexity.
  Cabernet Franc (VQA)
With a jammy nose of black currant, ripe plum and juicy blackberries, the palate of this wine is fleshy, with firm young tannins. Concentrated flavours of black currant jam and ripe plum emerge on the palate, while the finish has typical Cabernet Franc spiciness, especially freshly ground black pepper notes.
  Marechal Foch (VQA)
Saying this wine smells like cherry is an understatement : it smells like an orchard full of ripe black cherries! This wine is both fruity and earthy on the palate, with a refreshing bit of acidity. Pairs excellently with pizza and anything off the BBQ.
  Meritage (VQA)
A Bordeaux style blend, made with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Berry, currant and plum notes dominate the nose and palate, with hints of clove, and slight smokiness in the background. Rich and fruity with soft tannin and great spice, this red is a great all-occasion wine.
  Merlot (VQA)
Very flavourful, this wine has strong strawberry and raspberry notes, with hints of oak. It has firm tannins that create a velvety mouth-feel. Big, lively tannins and acidity if drunk now, but a great cellar candidate to age at least 5 years.
  Old Vines Chardonnay (VQA)
Produced from low-yielding Chardonnay vines that are over 20 years old, with light French oak treatment, this wine has an elegant nose, with notes of butter, undertones of vanilla, with tropical notes of banana and honeydew melon. This wine is full bodied with a buttery texture and has soft tropical notes of banana and citrus on the palate, with a long finish.
  Pinot-Cherry
Our special blend of Pinot Noir and Cherry wine. Very fruit forward, and slightly sweet, this wine makes a great aperitif, but pairs well with dark chocolate, or with popcorn and a movie! As the weather begins to cool down, this wine is also great for sipping in the hot tub!
  Riesling (VQA)
One of our best sellers, and a staff favourite, this wine is fruity on the nose, with fresh apricot, pear and citrus notes. On the palate this wine has zesty lemon and lime notes, with balancing apricot and pear notes. This wine pairs well with spicy dishes and asian fare.
  Rosé
Due to a demand for a Rosé wine, but a short crop in 2005, we blended wines from both our 2004 and 2005 vintage to create this wine. A blend of Vidal and Baco Noir, the nose of this wine smells like sweet strawberry jam with light floral notes in the background. On the palate, this wine is slightly sweet with lots of fresh berry flavour and slight citrus notes.
  Vidal (VQA)
Light and refreshing, the nose of this wine is loaded with pink grapefruit, lychee and soft floral notes. Lively lychee and pink grapefruit dominate the palate of this wine as well, with hints of mineral on the finish. A great wine for sipping, and also to have with light pasta or seafood dishes.
  Zweigelt (VQA)
A medium-bodied red, with black cherry and raspberry jam on the nose and palate, with slight spicy black pepper, smoky and earthy notes in the background. The palate has soft tannins, great fruit and spiciness. Break some rules and try this red with poultry or salmon.
