Robert Young Estate Winery

Robert Young Estate Winery obert Young Vineyards is a pioneer in the planting of premium varietal grapes in California. In 1963, it was the first to plant cabernet sauvignon in the Alexander Valley. It later became one of the first grape growers in California to introduce canopy management practices, and one of the first grape growers in America to be honored with a vineyard-designated wine. Today the Robert Young Vineyards are among the most honored winegrowing properties in the world. The vineyards are founded on land blessed by nature with rich soil and a moderate climate. At its heart is the Young family, who has farmed the land for four generations. Dedicated to growing wine from balanced vines, Robert Young Vineyards cultivates 13 premium varieties on more than 300 acres of benchland and hillside vineyards at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains.

  Alexander Valley Scion
“The Robert Young Estate Winery 2002 Scion has aromas and flavors of concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, the backbone variety of our red grape vineyards and Alexander Valley in general. Blackberry pie, plum jam and cherries are abundantly evident in this fruity yet complex wine. I also find hints of chocolate, mocha, and spice in the wine. Overall, this wine, the first Scion that was produced by me totally at our new winery on the Robert Young ranch, is a blockbuster, a mouthful of ripe fruit, long on the finish with toasty oak and just enough acidity. You can enjoy this Scion now or age it for ten years.” --Kevin Warren, winemaker

Light, toasty oak completes the wine with vanilla and spice.
