Rombauer Vineyards - Plymouth

Rombauer Vineyards - Plymouth Wine is a product of nature. But nature is rarely under its very best conditions. Most of the time very good wine is the product of nature being gently guided by the hand and wisdom of man. Guiding the land through its cycles from dormant vines in winter sleep, through the growing season, the wine making, aging, and finally bringing the finished wine to the table. The balance between the product of nature and the guiding of the hand of man, is the essence of the finest of wines and the philosophy here at Rombauer Vineyards. Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley. The winery features caves that extend for over a mile into the hillside. The caves provide a constant temperature and humidity which result in optimum conditions for aging our wines. Rombauer wines are consistently ranked high in the wine trade journals. Many of the finest restaurants throughout the country include Rombauer wines on their list and feature them by the glass. The joy of wine is something that's important to Rombauer. Whether you are a collector of fine wines or like to have wine with food, wine is something that truly should be enjoyed. Rombauer Vineyards puts a lot of hard work and tender care into making drinkable wines. And because wine is a simple product to enjoy, emphasis is given to taking the mystique out of enjoying fine wines. Our emphasis on the joy of wine comes from the heritage of the Rombauer family. Koerner's ancestors made wine in the famous Reingau region in Germany and his great aunt, Irma Rombauer, wrote the book The Joy of Cooking. Hence our focus on wine as complements to good food and good friends. Every family member is actively involved in the day to day operation of the winery from selecting grapes for the winemaking process and getting the wine to market. We produce several varietal wines, such as Carneros Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Estate Grown Zinfandel from the vineyard below the winery, and a blended reserve wine called Le Meilleur Du Chai, which means the Best of the Cellar. At Rombauer Vineyards, we take the time to hand craft and nurture our wines. Season after season, year after year. We're pleased to say the fruits of our labor have paid off. At wine competitions and where it counts in every glass of Rombauer wine.

  Amador Ice Wine Zinfandel
Our 2000 Renwood Amador Ice Zinfandel is an ultra-concentrated wine with fresh raspberry and blackberry aromas and a powerful palate richness. The acidity is nicely balanced with the sweetness, which contributes to the luscious, long finish. Try serving this wine with fresh vanilla bean ice cream, any traditional dessert dish, or, alone as the dessert! A perfect way to end a meal.
  Barbera Sierra Series
Each lot was fermented separately in stainless steel tanks providing maximum extraction of fruit and color, with an extremely rich mouthfeel. The lots were then aged for 10 months in a blend of New and Old American oak and French oak offering a well integrated compliment of toasty oak that will remain subtle.
  Non Vintage Port
This Port was made from the traditional Portuguese varietals grown on the hillsides of Amador County. Renwood's founder, Robert Smerling has a deep passion for wine and cigars that made us take a traditional approach to Port. Renwood grows four classic Portuguese varieties of Touriga, Alvaraho, Tinta Cao, and Souzao, which flourish in the Sierra Foothills. The quality of our port matches that which inspired Mr. Smerling during his visit to Portugal.

  Syrah Sierra Series
The fruit was hand-harvested and went through a long fermentation at cooler temperatures in individual vineyard lots, some with an extended maceration period on the skins in the traditional French style. This resulted in a rich, silky mouthfeel and bright fruit characters. We selected a combination of new and old American oak barrels to age the wine for 10 months. The final blend resulted in a deep, richly colored wine with a harmony of fruit, acidity, and tannins. The wine displays aromas of dark red fruits and sweet new oak. On the palate it demonstrates a silky texture that is perfectly balanced by an ultra-rich mouthfeel, a distinctive roasted peppery aroma with black cherry flavors, firm tannins, and a lingering finish.
  Viognier Select Series
The fruit was whole cluster pressed to remove the juice from the skins immediately. Once pressed, the must was pumped into a stainless steel tank to cold settle for about 48 hours. This allowed any sediments and solids to fall to the bottom of the tank. The clean juice was racked off the sediment, transferred to another tank, and inoculated to begin fermentation. The wine remained in stainless steel until bottling. Prior to bottling, the wine was cold filtered.
  Zinfandel Sierra Series
The 2002 Sierra Series Zinfandel was hand selected and harvested in mid to late October. Each vineyard lot was fermented individually at cool to moderate temperatures. Pressed at dryness, each lot was racked directly into barrels for aging. The individual lots were aged in a combination of new American oak and three to five year old French and American oak barrels for 10 months before the final blend was assembled. The resulting wine displays aromas of berry, cloves and cinnamon. The entry displays red fruit characters that carry through the mid-palate, finishing with a lingering vanilla and tasty oak ending.
