McNab Ridge Winery

McNab Ridge Winery Mendocino's first vineyards were planted during the American Civil War. Italian immigrants penetrated the wilderness and found a place reminiscent of their steep hillside farms back home. John Parducci's immigrant father arrived in the United States in 1912 and sold grapes to home winemakers across the country. During that time, John was learning the art of winemaking from his father, 200 legal gallons at a time, of course. John continued making wine at his family's winery until the late 1980s. He purchased the McNab Ridge Winery in 1999 to continue his tradition of making classic Mendocino County varietal wines. John knew the McNab Valley area well, having grown up hunting deer, turkey and wild boar on the ridges and valleys around the McNab Ranch. John's grandson Rich Parducci grew up in Mendocino County like his grandfather. He joined John at McNab Ridge following the 1999 harvest. Rich has a winemaking degree from California State University at Fresno, and held various winemaking positions before accepting the head job at McNab Ridge. McNab Ridge Winery now combines the pioneering winemaking spirit of John Parducci with the new tradition and vitality of Rich Parducci. Rich makes wine in the style made famous by his grandfather, John: complex, approachable, and enjoyable to drink. "We make wine that gets people to ask for a second glass," says Rich. Production in 2003 was 6,000 9-liter cases.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Inviting scents of black cherries, tobacco and creamy vanilla will prepare the consumer for a mouth full of rich fruit and elegant, integrated oak. Good weight at entry, followed by a solid center and a smooth finish. Tannins are moderate, which suggests that the wine will cellar for several years.
  Chardonnay
McNab Ridge Chardonnay expresses an abundance of melon and pear fruit characters. Tropical overtones are enhanced by creamy butter and sweet nut flavors. Barrel and malolactic fermentation adds to the complexity of this luscious mouth-filling Mendocino Chardonnay.
  Clydes White
Primarily Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with just a touch of Muscat, Clyde’s White is right for any time you want a balanced, refreshing white wine. Made with minimal oak aging, the fresh zesty fruit comes through, with flavors of melon, apricot, and herbs. It pairs especially well with seafood and chicken.
  Fred's Red
Syrah and Zinfandel are blended to create our Fred’s Red, giving it a clear ruby color and a luscious aroma of mixed blackberries, blueberries, cherries, and black currant with spice and floral notes. The flavor is juicy and fresh, with great structure and a long finish. Suited to be consumed early, but can be held for a year or two with great benefit.
  Meritage
Well focused, aromas are centered on plum, Pepper and ripe currants, overlaid with fine oak. Smooth and supple in the mouth, elegant flavors of black cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice extend into the velvety finish.
  Merlot
Inviting scents of black cherries, tobacco and creamy vanilla will prepare the con-sumer for a mouth full of rich fruit and elegant, integrated oak. Good weight at entry, followed by a solid center and a smooth finish. Tannins are moderate, which suggests that the wine will cellar for several years.
  Petite Sirah
The heartiest of the red wines we produce, Petite Sirah has long been a family favorite. Its intense color and dense body are complemented by layers of blackberry, spice, violets, black pepper and hints of vanilla. A huge wine from beginning to end, our Petite Sirah is full flavored with moderate tannins and lingering finish.
  Pinotage
Pinotage is a South African varietal, which resulted from a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault at the University of Stellenbosch in 1925. In spite of the fact that neither parent showed a lot of color, Pinotage is deeply colored and fully flavored. The bouquet is very fruit forward with aromas of raspberry, spice and dried rose petals. Lush, ripe essences of jammy blackberry, plum and chocolate enhance the concentrated fruit flavors. Well balanced and structured, the rich mid-palate is followed by a lingering finish with just the right amount of soft tannin.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Aromas focus on tropical fruit, fig and clove, with underlying grassy notes. On the palate, the delicate flavors are centered on melon and citrus. The supple body is appropriately balanced by the crisp acidity and lingering finish.
  Signature Series Mendotage
This wonderful rich “Bordeaux Blend” has finely integrated aromas of cassis, blueberry and violets, which are brought together with the perfect amount of oak. Deep, rich flavors of black cherry are the core to this full-bodied, well-rounded wine.
  Signature Series Port
This rich sweet, fortified dessert wine is produced from some of the traditional Port varieties. Floral aromas combined with hints of cherry and raspberry compliment the smooth elegant texture, as well as, the intense long finish. The overall impression is of richness, finesse & balance.
  Viognier

Choice grapes from Redwood Valley (Chase Vineyards) and the Talmage Region of the Ukiah Valley (Cononiah Vineyards) combine to create rich aromas of raspberry, black cherry and peppery spice with toasty oak nuances. This wine is well-structured and balanced with a long and flavorful finish.
