Larkmead Vineyards

Larkmead Vineyards Larkmead has been an integral part of Napa Valley's history since the late 19th Century. Larkmead was one of the four great Napa Valley wineries before prohibition and an early founder of the Napa Valley Vintners Association. Larkmead is proud to be embarking on its third century of crafting 100% Estate grown, 100% Napa Valley wines. This wonderfully diverse vineyard is located on Larkmead Lane in the Northern part of Napa Valley. Our vision is in the tradition of our forbearers: to create consistently excellent wines from our Estate - wines that are a true expression of place. Both as vintner and as a grower for several other leading Napa Valley wineries, Larkmead focuses primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other key Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. We are also excited about working with new blocks of Syrah, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc.

  Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
A fully saturated color of deep ruby-purple is followed by bright aromas of juicy, fresh cherries and spice, which darken to show licorice, sweet blackberries and dark chocolate. The palate is powerful and rich in its deep black fruit character, offset by complex notes of minerals and dried herb. A pure core of cassis liqueur, wild berries and roasted coffee leads to a broad palate, which is balanced by dark, sweet tannins and a long, cedary finish.
  Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep ruby red that darkens with aeration. Great aromatic complexity with red and black cherry, cassis and earthier notes of tar, leather and roasted coffee. The palate is immediately supple and juicy with sweet briary jam and then darkens to show layered black fruits and chocolate. The mid palate is rich and full and the soft tannins allow the breadth of the wine to gradually unfold across the palate, leading to a pleasant grip on the finish.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Solari Reserve
Our first Reserve bottling comes from the oldest vines on the Estate, which produce the smallest, most concentrated fruit and richest, most structured wine. A fully saturated purple color hints at the concentration that is to follow. Aromas of intense black cherry, creamy black raspberry, smoke and cedar lead to a palate that is dense and striking in its complexity. The signature Larkmead fruit core of crème de cassis liqueur is complemented by bittersweet chocolate, roasted meat, graphite and sweet vanilla. The wine's broad, weighty texture is buffered by penetrating tannins and an extended, succulent finish. This powerhouse of a wine will improve for 7 years as the wine's dense fruit core sinks further into the wine, increasing complexity and persistence in the finish. Decant for an hour in its youth to allow the full range of flavors to shine and drink over the next 15 years.
  Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“2002 was a great growing season, longer but the weather was perfect. The fruit didn’t all ripen at once and we got the great flavors that Andy was looking for. Not a huge crop but very high quality.” Manuel Rios – Vineyard Manager
  Napa Valley Firebelle
Dense, opaque ruby colored; a complex, earthy and nuanced nose of black cherry, smoke and spice, broadens to plum and black raspberry, with notes of dried herbs and minerals. The palate is juicy and vibrant on the entry with flavors of sweet mulberry and plum then darkens to show layers of vineyard-driven complexity with flavors of licorice and anise offset by subtle cedar notes. The mid-palate is broad yet structured and bold, earthy tannins kick in to extend and lengthen the finish. The wine will continue to develop typical Larkmead Bordeaux-esque complexity over the next 5 years.
  Napa Valley Merlot
Our 2002 Estate Merlot has a dark ruby red color, which leads to powerful aromas of black cherry, licorice, charcoal and violet. Sweet dark fruit dominates the palate with complex notes graphite, roasted meat and a stony mineral quality. The mid-palate is dense, chewy and is supported by powerful and assertive mouth-coating tannins and solid acidity, which extend the wine's length creating a sense of balance and integration.
  Napa Valley Merlot
A deep ruby, purple color leads to aromas of sweet red and black currants, mocha and charcoal. The palate is dense and powerful with sweet black cherry, cassis and minerals. A textured mid-palate and mouth-coating rich tannins provide structure and length. Our finest Merlot to date, the concentration of the wine is apparent in its dense, earthy character, a product of extremely low yields and fully mature fruit. The Cabernet component adds dark chocolate, cassis and structure to the Merlot's lush sweetness and broad texture. Decant for an hour in its youth to experience the wine's full range of flavors. This large-scaled wine will improve for 4 to 5 years in bottle and hold for a decade.
  Napa Valley Merlot
A deep ruby red color leads to bright yet complex aromas of raspberry and plum, which evolve to more earthy notes of sweet clove, game and a hint of tobacco. The brightness continues on the palate with juicy raspberry and a darker core of cassis and mocha. The mid palate is broad and mouth-filling with supple tannins that allow the persistent finish to slowly unfold.
