Jeff Runquist Wines

|
The principle wine produced by Jeff Runquist Wines is the "Z" Zinfandel. "Z" is an ultra premium varietal red table wine coming from a single vineyard in Amador County's Shenandoah Valley in the heart of California's gold rush country. The Zinfandel grapes used to produce "Z" come from the Massoni Ranch, which was planted at the turn of the century. Limiting production to just red table wines, Jeff Runquist Wines also produces a Sangiovese and Barbera. Both wines come from selected single vineyards in Amador County. These Italian varietals have always appealed to Jeff and compliment his winemaking style. For both the Barbera and Sangiovese the inaugural vintage was 1996. They are produced in very limited quantities; less than three hundred cases each. With the 2000 vintage Jeff Runquist introduced three new wines: Pinot Noir from the Sisters Vineyard in Carneros, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Colina Poca Vineyard in Paso Robles and Petite Sirah from the Salman Vineyard on Sutter Island in the Sacramento River Delta.

"R" Cabernet Franc
The 2005 Cabernet Franc has a deep purple color with bright youthful hues. The aroma has a bright blueberry theme with a flowery almost violet perfume. The aromas also carry just enough of a cedar herbal nuance to identify the wine’s varietal origin as Cabernet Franc. The flavors are fresh and lively with a bit of cassis on a medium bodied chassis with a mineral toasted oak finish.

"R" Cabernet Sauvignon, Colina Poca
The 2004 Colina Poca Cabernet has a deep garnet color. The 2004 vintage delivers one of the most complex smells ever for the Colina Poca Cabernet. There are blueberries, plums, and cassis in the aroma, and in the bouquet there is smoky oak that accompanies minerals and earth with hints of leather. The 2004 edition is also one of the softest wines in years. The flavors of plum and chocolate are rich and full on a very creamy texture. The tannins are very well integrated and almost melt on the palate. While the structure of this wine may not encourage aging, the acid levels will hold its flavors while the tannins complete their softening.

"R" Nostro Vino Zinfandel
Like the 2003 wine, the 2004 edition has a carmine ruby color with mature hues. The aroma is classic briary Zinfandel; warm ripe raspberries, plums and black pepper with a hint of dust. The bouquet offers up just enough hazelnut and vanilla to add complexity and richness. The flavors deliver juicy raspberry and plums with plenty of peppery spice. Richly textured, the wine finishes with smoky, heavily toasted oak. Good tannins along with a low pH and deep flavors will allow for successful aging.

"R" Pinot Noir
The 2005 has a deep ruby color with bright garnet hues. The aromas are of ripe cherries and raspberries. A subtle layer of oak delivers hints of hazelnut and vanilla to add just the right level of complexity. In the mouth, rich fruit flavors flow softly across the palate. The 2005 vintage has a classic velvet texture with melt in your mouth tannins.
|
"R" Primitivo
The 2005 Primitivo has an exceptionally deep ruby color with carmine hues. The aromas are of black cherries and plums. A bouquet of smoky oak with nuances of clove and cinnamon compliments the black fruit aromas. On the palate, flavors of sweet, ripe plums mingle with those of vanilla and oak. The fruit flavors transition to a long lingering finish featuring smoky charred oak with notes of dust and mineral. The tannins are soft and well integrated and in keeping with the cellar style of the wines produced by Jeff Runquist.

"R" Syrah
The 2005 vintage has the typical deep purple color with a bit of ruby in the hues. The aromas are of plums spice and leather. The bouquet delivers notes of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate racy flavors of sweet blackberry and fully ripened plums mingle with a bit of black pepper and chocolate. The texture is round and soft and the tannins are well integrated and provide a smooth supple texture. The lengthy finish is loaded with smoky toasted oak.

"Z" Zinfandel
The 2005 vintage wine has a deep ruby color with carmine hues. The aromas are a mélange of fruits; boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry and plum. The bouquet allows the fruit to shine and adds just a waft of hazelnut and vanilla. The flavors feature juicy succulent ripe red berry flavors. The texture of the wine is soft and velvety almost reminiscent of Pinot Noir. This vintage has very good acidity and will compliment Mediterranean cuisine well.
