  Barbera
An intensely fruity, dark and spicy wine, Barbera has been for Preston Vineyards a serendipitous discovery and adventure in flavor. The concentrated aromas of ripe raspberry and cherries are highlighted by notes of dark chocolate and subtle oak, providing a wine satisfying in its richness, surprising in its earthiness, and exciting in its food affinities. THE VINES Barbera, which first found its noble lineage in the full-flavored wines of Italy's Piedmont region, now has happily adapted to our lighter alluvial soils along Dry Creek. Historically, Barbera had not been widely planted here, but we believe it to be an apt expression of Dry Creek's Italian farming heritage--it's serious, exciting, sophisticated and sensuous all at once. It belongs here. THOUGHTS FOR FOOD With aromas of leather and earth, Barbera really shines with a meal of wild mushrooms. Saute with garlic and herbs, reduce the juices with a bit of the same wine, serve with a rough and crusty loaf.
  Carignane
One of our “old-timer” grapes. We draw Carignane grapes from both a 90 year-old vineyard and one we planted in the early 1980s. The resultant wine gives us dense blueberry/blackberry fruit, generous acidity, robust tannins, and a smoky, spicy finish. Sometimes the nose is teased with a bit of mineral, sometimes a barky sensation. Like our forebearers, we blend extensively with Carignane, but enjoy its rough and tumble individuality as well.
  Cinsault
Cinsault is a wine of contrasts. Incredibly fruity and jammy-ripe, it finishes with a subtle complexity that intrigues and lingers on the tongue. Shy-bearing and miserly in its harvest, we first satisfy our need for this grape in blends, like the proprietary L. Preston or Guadagni Jug. We celebrate our rare opportunity to bottle a varietal Cinsault wine and relish its explosion of cherry, cedar, and sandalwood.
  L. Preston Red
Highly Recommended by the San Francisco Chronicle. This wine is a fusion of varietals traditional to both California and the Rhone Valley our blend of estate grown Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre.
L.P. Red Dry Creek Valley Table Wine
L.Preston is a Rhône-style blend: Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignane, Cinsault; it has the grapes and the character to slip unobtrusively onto a Bandol table or into a Provençal carafe. But it is also a typical Dry Creek wine. Shiraz, Mataro, Malvoisie; the same grapes with different names, it’s at home here, too.
  Madam Preston
Our Madam Preston is a twist on the great white blends of Hermitage. We flip the proportions of Rousanne and Marsanne, and add Viognier to heighten aromatics and complexity. The resulting heady bouquet of pear, honey, almonds and jasmine punctuates the opulence of the Marsanne and Rousanne.
  Mourvedre
Mourvèdre is a fitting cousin to, and willing blender with Syrah, sharing its robust texture and a similar tannin structure. As a 100% varietal it has an intriguing black cherry, herbal, and cinamon flavor with a peppery, leathery finish. We sometimes compare Mourvédre with a French Burgundy for its suggestions of barnyard. Ours is a full bodied, richly textured wine.
  Petite Sirah
Remarkable power and depth with richness, complexity and finesse.
  Rousanne
Apricots, honey and spring blossoms abound in this idiosyncratic wine. Delicate with a slight pungence of white pepper in the nose, it finishes thick and rich on the palate. Famous for its Rhône provenance, Viognier has also proven to be one of the more distinctive white wines from our property.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc has long been our signature white chosen for its appropriateness to our climate and soils. Our style is an expression of the innate grassy character of the varietal coaxed and preserved by minimal processing in the cellar. Its vinification is a balance of cold-fermentation in stainless steel, and ripening "sur lies" at cellar temperature in French oak casks. The dominant flaors are of stone fruit and melon, aromas of fresh herbs and straw, the finish is lean and crisp with just a touch of candied ginger.
  Syrah
Sonoma County Harvest Fair gold medal winner, 89 points from Robert Parker and highly reccomended by the San Francisco Chronicle.
  Syrah-Sirah
We have a long history of blending Syrah and Petite Sirah. Purists may not forgive my alliterative companionship of the two, but by golly the two grapes sounded alike so 25 years ago I planted them side by side and proceeded to combine them in the bottle. Serendipity in your glass. The fleshy tannins, satsuma plummyness and animal growl of the first married beautifully with the grit, gumption and black cherry of the latter to make a rich, deep and long-aging red with both French and California breeding.
  Vin Gris
Apricots, honey and spring blossoms abound in this idiosyncratic wine. Delicate with a slight pungence of white pepper in the nose, it finishes thick and rich on the palate. Famous for its Rhône provenance, Viognier has also proven to be one of the more distinctive white wines from our property.

  Zinfandel
Our Zinfandel is jammy and briary, with aroma sensations of brushing against wild blackberry bushes on a hot summer day. A bit of pepper, clove and cinnamon provides punctuation. Small crops and shallow hillside soils bring intensity of flavor while the warmth of our end of Dry Creek Valley ensures generous ripeness and a soft, rich finish. Petite Sirah is added to the blend to increase complexity and to emulate the field- blends of earlier times.
