Barboursville Vineyards

Barboursville Vineyards The estate winery and vineyards are located on 830 acres of beautiful rolling hills near the Blue Ridge Mountains. We presently have 125 acres of vineyards and continue to expand. Under the direction of Luca Paschina, General Manager and winemaker, Barboursville consistently produces quality wines that have won international recognition. The Zonin family of Italy, brought their strong commitment to produce quality wines to Virginia in 1976. They were the first in the state to plant and successfully establish the revered vitis vinifera vines. The four Zonin brothers, proprietors of the largest Italian privately held wine company, descend from a family that has for centuries been wed to viticulture. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-5pm

  Barbera Reserve
One of the most popular red wines of Northern Italy, Barbera is elegantly earthy, with raspberry, chocolate and plum tones. Medium bodied with well integrated tannins and lively acidity.
  Barboursville Brut
A classic blend of carefully selected Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Refreshing and intriguing with vibrant fruit flavors leading to ripe pear that lingers on the finish. The moderate acidity integrates well with fine bubbles and a soft structure.
  Cabernet Franc
A Virginia classic. With layers upon layers of ripe berries, plum, currant, cherry and cedar elegantly woven together by twelve months of barrel aging. Cabernet Franc’s great character combines intense flavors with remarkable softness.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
This elegant red is complex and inviting, showing currant, mint and herbal tones. Twelve months of oak aging produce a well balanced structure with supple and refined tannins.
  Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Created only in the best vintages, this wine reflects the extensive care given in every aspect of the production. A symphony of berry, pepper, currant and prune notes is followed by rich and polished tannins that allow extended cellaring.
  Chardonnay
Cold fermentation in stainless steel yields a fresh and exuberant wine with crisp acidity and clean varietal flavors of apple, pear and lemon.
  Chardonnay Reserve
Barrel fermented and aged for seven months, the wine is exploding with rich and complex flavors of pear, apple and vanilla. A good acidity is well proportioned with the generous body and allows for an extended aging potential.
  Malvaxia Reserve Passito
With the 2001 vintage we introduced a new blend in a beloved winery favorite, our first Passito dessert wine, based on the most extravagant hand-crafting tradition. The grapes are carefully hand-selected and air-dried for 4 months before gentle pressing. A slow and cool fermentation over 6 months, followed by 18 months of barrel aging, produces an intensely luscious concentration of flavors and aromas, in a still elegantly balanced and alluringly fresh, long-finishing wine. Bottled June, 2004.
  Merlot
Born from 100% Merlot, with limited oak aging, offers elegant berry flavors with distinctive tones of mint and plum. Has medium body combined with extremely soft tannins.
  Nebbiolo Reserve
A true example of the beauty and power of the most acclaimed varietal in Italian viticulture. Elegant and complex with tar, smoke, blackberry and tobacco notes. Full bodied, with a firm, dense structure followed by a seamless and lasting finish. The wine improves with age and turns into a real gem.
  Octagon
A superb red, created and released only in exceptional vintages such as 1991, 1995, 1998, based on Merlot and other Bordeaux varietals. The massive tannin structure is tamed by extended aging in French oak barrels. Dark in color with a superb aroma of plum, cassis and tobacco, its complex flavors are well integrated with a silky finish.
  Phileo
A truly beautiful and friendly dessert wine, the result of a masterful blend of Moscato, Gewürztraminer and other aromatic varietals. Lively sweetness is balanced by sustained acidity giving a charming clean finish.
  Pinot Grigio
Romantic and youthful-spirited, made in a true Italian style of winemaking. Extremely flavorful, with apple, pear and a touch of pineapple. Dry and well balanced with a glowing and poignant finish.
  Pinot Noir
This medium-bodied red has pleasant black cherry, cedar and herb notes that become deep and complex. Timed oak aging allows the wine to be soft and with a lingering finish.
  Riesling
A long and cold fermentation is the secret of this wine’s refreshing and floral character with pear and ripe nectarine tones. Off-dry, well balanced, offers a nice clean finish.
  Sangiovese
The king of Tuscan viticulture, gentle and elegant, with plenty of cherry and plum aromas that are well integrated with a lingering finish and a round structure.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Effusively fragrant, crisp, juicy and bright with distinctive pear and passion fruit flavors. Hints of citrus appear on a gently herbal frame.
  Viognier Reserve
Effusively fragrant, crisp, juicy and bright with distinctive pear and passion fruit flavors. Hints of citrus appear on a gently herbal frame.

Wonderful three ring circus with tourist galore pushed around in travel buses. No relaxation here, just pure unadulterated sales push. Tasted quite a few wines and in a blind tasting with my wife, I chose the $32 Nebbiolo and my wife selected the $40 Octagon wine. Good enough to purchase? No. Left with a Sauvignon Blanc and a pot holder as a souvenir of getting out of this place alive and with our wallets still in tact. It was amazing how they pushed through so many people. $4.00 fee for tasting glass does not apply to wine purchase(s). We left our glasses there.
