Heller Estate

Overlooking the Cachagua region of Carmel Valley, ("Cachagua" is believed to be an Indian Derivative of the French "cacher" and the Spanish "agua" - "hidden waters"), and framed by the dramatic surrounding hills, lie the beautiful mountain vineyards of the Heller Estate. The 120 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir are planted at an altitude of 1200 - 1500 feet, producing rich, luscious grapes, which result in outstanding premium wines. The vineyards are essentially dry-farmed, the roots of the vines descending deep in the loamy, sandy soil in search of the underground "Cachagua" springs. These stressed vines produce outstanding luscious fruit, which are then skillfully crafted into the extraordinary Cabernets that have been described by wine reviewers as "super-rich, with lots of tannin and explosively long finishes". The Chardonnays are reviewed as "dramatic, blockbuster wines which are rich, exceptionally age worthy, and can easily last 5-7 years - an uncommonly long time for a California Chardonnay"

Cabernet Franc
75% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon ~ Dried cherry, black currant with notes of coriander/black pepper and sweet oak/vanilla. Also, some notes of fresh tobacco. Medium-full body with layers of ripe, black fruit, youthful tannins and nicely integrated oak with pleasant herbal tea notes. This is a big, forceful Cabernet Franc with an excellent structure for aging because of the firm tannins and lively acidity.

Cachagua Cabernet Sauvignon
78% Cabernet, 22% Merlot ~ Dark rose petal red color; Aromas of bright cherry, with hints of toasty oak and cocoa. Also, look for beautiful, round herbal notes as nose opens. Beautiful Bordeaux blend that shows earth, cherry, blackberry and herb flavors. Good backbone of tannins and bright acidity carry through into a balanced, lengthy finish. More please!

57% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 17% cabernet franc, 3% malbec - Luscious vanilla, sweet oak, black currant, molasses/brown sugar/maple aromas. Complex and layered, one may have difficulty removing nose from glass! Medium-full to full bodied with excellent concentration, this offers ripe black cherry, plum and cassis fruit with a beautifully definedmid-palate and a well structured finish with youthful tannins, nicely integrated, stylish oak, lively acidity and a wonderful fruit persistence. This wine will drink well for a decade and more.

Chardonnay
100% Chardonnay ~ Aroma of predominantly citrus notes of lemon with vibrant pear and melon. Also, look for notes of honeysuckle as aromas develop in the glass. Barely going through malic fermentation and being tank fermented make this wine lively and bright. Crisp citrus flavors and a tight acid backbone to enhance the mouth feel and make this wine the perfect accompaniment to seafood dishes.

Chenin Blanc
85% Chenin Blanc, 15% Johannisberg Riesling ~ Super-ripe honeydew melon and bright concentrated grapefruit with nice floral throughout. All sorts of citrus notes along with hints of juicy guava and subtle peach. Luscious mouthfeel. The perfect combination of bright, lively acid and smooth, long residual sweetness makes the mouth of this Chenin shine. Look for flavors of lychee, citrus, ripe pear and green apple.

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
95.55% Cabernet, 4.45% Merlot; Dark red, with purple hues; Black fruit—predominantly Blackberry/Blueberry, with spicy Oak/Cedar wood notes, slight hints of Mocha; very firm in texture, with sweet spices surrounding a core of dark fruit/ripe Currant flavors; balanced, fine grain tannins that build nicely into a chewy finish. Divine!

Late Harvest Johannisberg Riesling
Superb dessert wine, smooth and mouth-coating, lightly honeyed upon entry with crisp flavors through to the end - hints of almond/marzipan on finish.

Merlot
100% Merlot ~ Deep, lush red color; aroma of Cedar, Black Currant, and concentrated Blackberry with nice hints of Coffee/Mocha and Vanilla Oak; Firm mouth with tight, yet complex tannins that spread nicely throughout. Wild berry, toasted herbs, and coffee flavors carry through the middle of this broad-shouldered, highly extracted wine. Lingering finish of exotic spices and chewy tannins. Cheers!

Merlot Reserve
75% Merlot 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, Medium-full to full-bodied, this has an explosion of black cherry fruit, a generous mid-palate and a beautifully structured finish with youthful tannins, ample, but nicely integrated oak and lively acidity. This wine is beautiful now and can be cellared, if desired, for five to ten years.

Merlot Rosé
100% Merlot ~ Aroma of highly concentrated, ripe strawberry, watermelon nose with hints of tea leaf. Strawberry and melon extend into the mouth blending with crisp, light acidity. Medium-full with a good dose of fruit, this has tasty, fresh cherry, berry fruit and a nicely structured finish that is dry and has very good acidity.

Pinot Noir
100% Pinot Noir ~ Brilliant garnet, ruby-red hue; An appealing baked cherry pie nose, with added chocolate, vanilla, new oak, black raspberry, and berry fruit aromas. The mouth of this pinot is brimming with concentrated berry and cherry flavors that grip one’s entire mouth. Nicely balanced fruit and acid combine to enhance the overall mouth feel. This is not a flabby pinot and it could hold up very well to red meat dishes as well as the traditional salmon and white meat standards. Salud!!
