Bedell Cellars

Bedell Cellars The recent purchases of Bedell Cellars, Corey Creek Vineyards and Wells Road Vineyards by Michael Lynne, Co-CEO of New Line Cinema signal the further transformation of Long Island’s wine industry to professional producers of world-class wines. The Bedell Cellars group now includes three vineyards, two tasting rooms and one winery. Bedell Cellars founder Kip Bedell continues as winemaker and oversees all operations. Bedell is consistently ranked the North Fork’s premier producer of Merlot and one of the best in the United States. When Food & Wine singled out Long Island as one of America’s “most dynamic new wine regions” in November of 2000, Bedell Cellars was featured front and center. Since their first commercial vintage in 1985, Bedell Cellars has consistently won awards and high praise. Bedell’s renowned standard of quality is maintained by consistency in viniculture & viticulture techniques combined with Kip Bedell’s talent for optimizing variability in vintages. Kip’s growing reputation as a winemaker begins with his red wines; his colleagues on the North Fork have even dubbed him “Mr. Merlot”. Jancis Robinson’s Oxford Companion to the Wines of North America chose Bedell’s 1995 Merlot as the benchmark merlot from Long Island. Howard Goldberg of the New York Times echoed the honor when he said, “Of the East End’s established producers, only a handful have earned real brand recognition. . . The league leader is Bedell’s Merlot, both regular and reserve, which sets the pace for the East End’s signature grape and are a match for the top versions from anywhere.”

Blended in the classic Medoc style, our 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits all the flavors, complexity, and age-worthiness that made this the world's most popular red wine grape. The Cabernet vines here at Bedell are some of our oldest, and are managed for low concentrated yields. It has flavors of black cherry and coffee that are complemented by the firmly structured tannins.
The two-acre plot known prosaically as "C-Block South" yields Merlot grapes of exceptional quality. Black cherry and warm plum with hints of strawberry and raspberry lead to a mouth-filling sensation.
  Bedell Cellars CUPOLA
Bedell 2000 Cupola; our flagship Bordeaux blend boasts an opaque black/purple color as well as Medoc-like display of blackberries, leather and chocolate. Smooth and lush, with a long finish.
Our Riesling grapes were picked at the peak of perfection and quickly frozen, then pressed and fermented slowly over several months, using a German Beerenauslese yeast. The resulting wine is a thick, high sugar juice with exotic flavors of ginger, peaches, pear and mango.
  Bedell Cellars MERLOT
Bedell Cellars 2001 Merlot has lush cherry flavors with hints of strawberry and raspberry. Firm tannins lead to undertones of licorice and cola that cleanse the palate. Enjoy with duck, tuna steaks and lamb.
  Bedell Cellars RASPBERRY WINE
Made from briefly fermented raspberry juice, our Raspberry wine is then fortified with 190 proof grape neutral spirits (essentially grape alcohol). This spectacular fruit wine's heady raspberry nose and taste is guaranteed to make you say WOW!
  Bedell Cellars VIOGNIER
The Bedell Cellars 2003 Viognier is one of only a handful to be found in the Eastern United States. It has delicate aromas of melon, pineapple and honeysuckle and a rich mouthfeel.
The Corey Creek Cabernet Franc 2001, the first to be made since its debut at Corey Creek in 1998, exhibits vibrant aromas of black cherry and pepper, with rich cranberry fruit.
  Corey Creek CHARDONNAY
The Corey creek 2002 Estate Chardonnay is a bright, fruit-driven wine, similar in style to Chablis. Apples and pears tingle the palate, leading to a spicy finish.
Rose petals and litchi aromas abound in this Alsatian-style wine, infused with hints of pinneapple, melon and papaya.
  Corey Creek MERLOT
Full-bodied and vibrant, this blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc has distinctive flavors of black cherries with a long, uniquely vanilla-tinged finish.
100% fermented and aged in French oak barrel, the Corey Creek 2002 Reserve Chardonnay is a rich, full-bodies wine with flavors of honey, wild apple and sweet cream butter.
Made from 100% estate-grown Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2003 Domaines CC Rosé has aromas of strawberries, red cherry and blueberry.
Bedell Cellars was established with the help of a 1951 Ford Pick-up. The red truck, which originally belonged to Kip Bedell's Grandfather, now stands fully restored at the Bedell Vineyards on the Main Road. Main Road Red is a delightful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
