Hanover Park Vineyard

Hanover Park Vineyard Hanover Park Vineyard was unknowingly born during amonth long honeymoon in the south of France in the summer of 1996. Michael and Amy Helton returned home, with a love of wine and the countryside, and by December Hanover Park Vineyard, in the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina began. Two artists and teachers took a chance, worked very hard, and turned a deserted Farm into a thriving vineyard. Two and a half acres were planted in 1997; two more acres were planted in 1998. The farmhouse, built in 1897, was transformed into the tasting room and winery in 1999 for the first harvest producing 375 cases. The 2000 vintage was 1000 cases; the 2001 harvest was 1800 cases, and the 2002 about 2400 cases. People feel at home at Hanover Park, walking through the vineyards, picnicking under the old oaks, tasting the wines, and sometimes pitching in to help with the work. The atmosphere is conducive to sitting and visiting in addition to tasting and enjoying the wines. Hours: Thu-Fri, 4-6 pm; Sat, 12-6 pm; Sun 1-5 pm.

  Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
Fermented and aged in French oak with flavors of apple, vanilla, and oak producing a rich, well-balanced enjoyable white wine.
  Cabernet Franc
Aged in American oak, with cherry and blackberry flavors and less tannic than Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc is a dry, Medium to full-bodied red wine.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Left in American oak longer than any of our other reds, Cabernet Sauvignon imparts wonderful aromas and full flavors of black currant and blackberry jam.
Aged in American oak, a medium bodied red with deep flavors of fruit without heavy tannins, those who do not normally drink reds easily enjoy Chambourcin.
  Chardonnay (no oak)
Cold fermented slowly in stainless steel. This Chardonnay develops crisp, green apple and nutty flavors with a slight citrus overtone.
  Early Twilight
A dessert wine in the tradition of a Muscat Blanc, Early Twilight is crafted with 40% Carlos and 60% and mix of Sauvignon Blanc, Vidal, and Gewurztraminer. The sweetness is matched with wonderfully high acid to such a degree that even non dessert wine drinker enjoy this wine.
  Michael’s Blend
A traditional Bordeaux blend with a twist has proven to be a very popular red wine at Hanover Park.
Our love of wines from the Rhone Valley of France has influenced this robust rich full-flavored red wine blended with 20% Syrah and aged in American Oak.
A semi-sweet wine with fragrant aromas and hints of cherry, spice and peach, our rosé is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Mourvedre, Chambourcin and some years Viognier. These six red varietals give this Rosé tremendous flavor and an excellent alternative to white zinfandel.
A light smooth dry white wine produced from grapes grown at the foot of Pilot Mountain, Viognier has spicy flavors of peach, pear, and citrus. Viognier is our best selling wine, out selling Chardonnay by two to one, and is fast becoming North Carolina's Signature White Wine. Even though it is dry, because it is so smooth, some think it has a touch of sugar. Richard Leahy, East Coast Editor of Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine said, "Hanover Park Vineyard's Viognier is the best Viognier for the money anywhere."
