Kickapoo Creek Winery

Kickapoo Creek Winery Welcome to Kickapoo Creek Winery! ... a great place in central Illinois to sample and purchase fine local wines, and to learn about how wine is made. It's a place where one can walk along trails beside lakes, surrounded by vineyards and tall oak trees. It's a place to have a party, corporate meeting, or wedding and reception. We're located right off I-74 (Exit 82), about 10 minutes west of Peoria and only minutes from local restaurants and hotels. We are also close to indoor shopping at Northwoods Mall, and The Shoppes at Grand Prairie, an open-air shopping and lifestyle center that is Peoria's most unique retail shopping destination. Book your next event with us! You won't believe our new Banquet Center, complete with full service bar, kitchen, and dance floor. Our winery is next door, with a specially designed observation area offering visitors a glimpse into the wine making process as they relax and sample the wine! Come out and visit us, you'll have a great time. Our Soil - How can we grow such fine grapes? The soil at Kickapoo Creek Winery is rich "timber soil", not well suited for corn, but ideal for growing grapes, and lots of them! In fact, we produce a gallon of wine per plant. Midwest grapes are comparatively intolerant to cold, and our vineyards are planted on higher ground, away from the colder, denser air. This helps the grapes remain high, dry, and frost-free. Our background - Dr.David Conner, a local surgeon, has spent many years developing Conner Nursery, and now Kickapoo Creek Winery. The nursery is home to over 400 varieties of hostas, these helped provide the inspiration in naming some of the wines. The nursery also features the largest selection of ornamental grasses in central Illinois, best viewed along the Fantasy Grass Trail during the Fall bloom. Conner Nursery also grows a large variety of perennials. Dr. Conner's knowledgable staff has leveraged their expertise with the new winery, having already won two silver medals in Illinois state competitions during their first full year of operation! We are sure you'll also enjoy these fine wines.

From Peoria take I-74 west to Exit 82 (Kickapoo/Edwards). Turn left onto Kickapoo Edwards Road. Travel 1/4 mile, turn right onto Smith Road (note Winery sign). The entrance to the winery is just past the curve on the right, watch for the windmill.

  Golden Sunbirst
A dry, white Illinois table wine. This wine should remind you of the sweet spice of Gewurztraminer with the apricot fruit found in Riesling. The Traminette grape provides this delightfully soft mix of these two famous grapes from the Rheingau. Imagine wine dripping off roses, into your glass. Made from blends of Vidal, Seyval and Villard.
  Jubilee Gold
A sweet, white Illinois table wine. An award winning, full bodied white wine that has an apple note when first placed in the mouth, followed by a mix of aromas contributed from flavors due to French and American oak aging. The finish is crisp with the wine pleasantly lingering on the palatte. Made from a blend of mainly Edelweiss, Vidal and Villard. Alc. less than 14%
A dry, red wine. Flavors of black cherry and currant, tobacco and spice, with creamy oak and focused tannins all working together unfiltered.
  Misty Creek
A dry, white Illinois table wine. Similar to a Sauvignon Blanc, it has a nice green apple and pear aroma that hints of sweetness, but the taste is crisp and the finish lingers on the palatte. The lingering flavors bring fullness to the palatte with a soft blending of fruit flavors. Barrel-aged Chardonel and dry Chardonel.
  Red October
A dry, red table wine. An unpretentious straight forward wine with a hint of berries and currants. It finishes slightly sweet with good structure, allowing it to be enjoyed by itself or with food. Oak-aged, made from Norton and Chambourcin.
  Ruby Glow
A sweet, red Illinois table wine. A big, bold wine that is best served with red meats and more robust flavored main meals. It is a wine designed to be enjoyed now, and if allowed, for many more enjoyable years. A blend of French and American oak, it finishes with a silky velvet feel on the palatte. Made from Foch and Rougeon.
  Sauvignon Blanc
A dry, white wine. Incisively varietal, our Sauviginon Blanc entertains with lemon grass, melon, grapefruit and a pleasant licorice mineral character.
  Sun Kiss
An off-dry wine with a mix of fruit flavors from the many grapes used to craft this delightfully soft, round wine. Made from Traminette. 2.5% residual sugar.
