Comtesse Therese

Comtesse Therese Comtesse Thérèse of Aquebogue, Long Island, New York is an artisanal producer of fine red wines, principally owned by Theresa Dilworth, native New Yorker and 4th generation Long Islander. For its first four vintages - 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 - Comtesse Thérèse wines were made using merlot, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay grapes from various North Fork of Long Island vineyards. Starting with 2004, a small quantity of cabernet sauvignon was harvested from the estate vineyard in Aquebogue. Annual case production is in the 500-800 case range. Comtesse Thérèse has introduced a number of innovations into the winemaking process. Wines are generally made using indigenous yeasts and are unfined and unfiltered. Comtesse Thérèse is the first winemaker on the East Coast, and one of the first in the US and in the world, to use Canadian oak barrels. Other oak barrels used for aging include the rare Hungarian and Russian oaks, as well as the more traditional French and American oak. Wine tastings are at THE TASTING ROOM , the multi-winery tasting room featuring artisanal, boutique wines, with locations in Peconic and in Jamesport.

Take the Long Island Expressway east until it ends at Exit 73. Follow the exit ramp onto Old Country Road (Route 58), follow Route 58 through Riverhead and continue straight through the intersecton with Route 105. At this point, Route 58 changes into Route 25. Follow Route 25 about 3 more miles, past the town of Aquebogue to the town of Jamesport. THE TASTING ROOM is on the Main Road, just west of the traffic light in the center of town, across the street from and west of the gas station.
