Chateau de Leelanau

Chateau de Leelanau Chateau de Leelanau vineyards and winery are located near the northern tip of the Leelanau Peninsula overlooking both Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay. Today the vineyard's picturesque setting is yielding some of the finest wines ever produced from this new and progressive wine country. Chateau de Leelanau's wines have been recognized for their quality, freshness, and complex allure with a continuing series of Gold Medal awards since their first vintage in 1999. Recent honors include Gold Medal and Best of Show in Sparkling Wine for their 2000 "Andante" Sparkling Riesling at the 2003 Michigan State Fair Wine Competition. Owners, Dr. Roberta Kurtz and Joanne Smart have developed their estate wines from vineyards started in 1990. Vinifera varieties include Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and two newer varieties of Bianca and Regent.

  2002 Chardonnay Sur Lie
An Un-wooded Chardonnay
  Andante
ral and fruity essences highlight this delicate, lively sparkling wine. A perfect compliment to your holiday meals! Our 2000 vintage was honored as "Best in Category" at the 2003 Michigan State Fair Wine Competition.
  Bianca
Hint of mint with taste of pear and mango. This is a wonderful, soft, light, dry white wine. Limited quantities available.
  Chardonnay Sur Lie
A slow, cool fermentation in Stainless Steel tanks. Fresh and fruity nose with crisp aromas of apple and citrus enhance the concentrated flavors of caramel and toffee. A classic un-wooded Chardonnay.
  Chardonnay, Barrel
Slow fermentation in mature oak casks with extended lees contact. Gently racked and aged for an additional 15 months prior to release. Bright golden hues with a gentle kiss of oak enhancing the butterscotch and honeyed pear flavors.
  Dry Riesling
A citrus nose of pink grapefruit and flavors of lime and orange zest. The acidity softens the fruit. This wine is proof that a Riesling can be fruity and dry at the same time.
  Late Harvest Riesling
  Pinot Gris
Honeydew melon, tart apple and soft pineapple flavors accent this unassuming white wine. The finish is brightly crisp and refreshing.
  Pinot Gris
This very popular wine is lushly fragrant, vibrant with ripe honeydew melon and soft pineapple. It finishes crisp and refreshing. Incredibly versatile with food; our Pinot Gris is ideal for casual or formal dinner parties.
  Pinot Noir
A wealth of expressive fruit- black cherry, plum and boysenberry. Rich and concentrated turning complex with an abundance of toasted oak and vanilla highlights. Extended cellaring recommended for this young red wine. It will continue to mellow and intensify with age.
  Select Harvest Riesling
A rich body with exceptional fruit flavor. Scents of orange blossom and caramel. A crisp, flavorful blend of tangerine, tropical fruit and honey. Finely balanced and harmonious.
  Select Harvest Riesling
Tastes of caramel and honey with tropical & floral notes that last throughout a warm, long finish. Excellent accompanied by fruit and cheese or with dessert. Now offered in 750ml size!
  Semi-Dry Riesling
Tasty, bright and focused with apple, peach and stone fruit flavors. This Riesling first appears soft, yet it has the necessary acidity to balance its fresh flavors as it turns crisp on the finish.
  Verry Cherry
Leelanau tart cherries are blended and slow fermented to create this delightful dessert wine. Sweet up front with a tart finish and rich dark cherry tones. A perfect companion to chocolate or cigars.
