Horan Estates Winery

Horan Estates Winery In the late 1800's, Michael Horan came to the Wenatchee Valley and homesteaded at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers. He was initially in the dairy business until establishing a pear orchard in the rich, fertile soil of the confluence. In the early 1900's Michael built the Horan House, now listed in the Washington Historical Register. It was in this home that Michael's great-grandson, Doug McDougall, (the winemaker for Horan Estates Winery) was raised until venturing off to college in the mid 1960's to follow the family farming tradition. Trying to weather the economic ups and downs of apple farming, Doug decided to diversify and planted some grapes on land next to his organic apple orchard near Royal City, Washington. That turned out to be a smart move as the area was soon to become recognized as ideal for wine grapes and is now part of the Columbia Valley appellation. When other winemakers praised the high quality of grapes produced from the vineyard, Doug, along with his wife Diana and dear friends Ross and Kelly Riedinger, decided to start a small winery. The facility is located on picturesque Wenatchee Heights. In December, 2003, Doug and Diana lost their son Corey Wayne McDougall in a tragic snowmobiling accident. Sadly, in January of 2004, Doug's 100 year old grandmother, Helen VanDivort Horan, passed away. Horan Estates Winery dedicates all our vintages in memory of these two wonderful people.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Exemplifying our intent to showcase varietal characteristics when crafting wines, this Cabernet exhibits soft tannins, fruit forward flavors and a rich, satisfying finish. Its approachability and versatility makes it perfect for complimenting light hors d'oeuvres through red meats. 125 cases made
We just released our 2003 Duet blend of 83% Sauvignon Blanc and 17% Semillon on August 1st. This distinctive vintage has extra bottle aging and exhibits supple fruit flavors with a light oak toast and refreshing acids. It presents a full mouth feel and is boldly structured with a slight sweet sensation and crisp finish. The small amount of Semillon balances out the citrus flavors of the Sauvignon Blanc. This wine will be great with lighter fare to finish out the last of the summer months. 60 cases made
