Chateau Lorane

Chateau Lorane What began over 20 years ago in Southern California as a small backyard hobby has for Linde and Sharon Kester, become a second career and a new way of life. In 1984 they planted a 30 acre vineyard in the historic Lorane Valley. Their first commercial wines were produced in 1991 and then in 1992 the Chateau Lorane tasting room was opened on their 200 acre estate with tall green stands of fir trees and a beautiful private lake. Amidst the spectacular scenery one can experience a truly unique family of wines, from traditional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, to rare and exotic varieties, painstakingly crafted handmade wines. Chateau Lorane has created a distinguished group of wines which include rare and unusual grapes such as Cascade, Chancellor, Pinot Meunier, Gamay Noir and Baco Noir - red varieties with distinct characteristics. These are wines that one must taste to fully experience the full breadth of wine flavors and nuances. Other, rare wines include Melon de Bourgogne, Durif (a.k.a. Petite Sirah), Cabernet Franc, Viognier and Marechal Foch, are special wines made only in small batches. Chateau Lorane also produces fruit wines and meads from Apricots, Raspberries, Huckleberries and Wild Blackberries which ripen to perfection during Oregon's warm, dry summers. Some years Mother Nature blesses Oregon with ideal conditions to create late harvest wines. Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Marechal Foch have been produced. Linde's wine making style has been described as being somewhat unconventional. He admits that he likes to make non-traditional blends, he also enjoys utilizing obscure grape varieties and in general tries to make his wines as distinctive as possible. Priding themselves on the flexibility and freedom to pursue such creative passions, Linde and Sharon Kester are a welcome discovery to the wine lover in search of unique wines of exceptional character.

  1995 Cabernet Sauvignon
Superbly well balanced with aromas and flavors of ripe berries and plums along with earthy and herbaceous hints. This vintage is currently drinking well.
  1996 Pinot Noir
This well balanced medium-bodied winte displays a delicately rich nose, generous flavors of black cherries, plums, and berries with hints of cedar, tea, cassis and spice.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Superbly well balanced with aromas and flavors of ripe berries and plums along with earthy and herbaceous hints. This vintage is currently drinking particularly well.
  Chardonnay (off dry)
An off dry friuty style with an alluring flower nose.
  Durif (aka Petite Sirah)
This disctinctive wine displays a spicy, black pepper character along with deep smoky, toasty, oak flavors.
  Gewurztaminer (Off Dry)
Made in a slightly sweet style with spicy hints of cinnamon and nutmeg along with green apple, citrus, and stone fruit flavors.
  Late Harvest Pinot Gris (375ml)
Rarely seen as a dessert wine, these Pinot Gris grapes were left hanging until the week-end before Thanksgiving. This very long "hang time" produced rich pear, peach, apricot and pinapple flavors.

A darkly colored, rich, fruity wine with bright berry-like flavors along with hints of plum, cranberry and a long toasty oak finish.
  Marechal Foch Port (Non-Vintage)

A rich, flavorful wine with hints of citrus and tropical fruit.
  Pinot Gris (Dry)
A crisp, clean, and flavorful wine with hints of citrus and fresh tropical fruit.
  Pinot Meunier
This distant relative of Pinot Noir plays a major role in producing the world's finest champagnes but is rarely made into a dry red wine. This bright fruity wine exhibits hints of candied cherries, spicy cinnamon and nutmeg with a moderate oak and tannin structure.
  Sangiovese
This light-bodied red wine is fruity and refreshing with generous strawberry and tart cherry flavors.
  Sauvignon Blanc (Dry)
A dry, crisp white wine made with no oak influence. Blended with 10% Semillon this rich, flavorful wine exhibits a lemony, slightly herbaceous character and will complement a wide range of foods, especially seafood dishes.
  Syrah
Dark rich and full-bodied this wine exhibits ripe plum, blackberry, and cherry flavors along with moderate tannins and a smokey oak finish.
  Viognier (Off Dry)
This little known variety from the Rhone region of France produces a richly perfumed and fruity wine with peach, nectarine, citron flavors and just a touch of sweetness.

This "house blend" is predominately Pinot Noir and is reminiscent of a very dry Chianti.
  Zinfandel
A rich fruity wine with generous rasberry and blackberry flavors and a long spicy, peppery finish.
