Humanitas Wines
|
|
Humanitas is a unique winery with a very compelling story. Simply we make wine, sell it, and give the profits to charity! Specifically, the profits go to find solutions to three very primary issues -- hunger, affordable housing and illiteracy -- and we've chosen America's Second Harvest, Habitat for Humanity and Reading is Fundamental as our primary charities. However, we try to support whatever charity best addresses these issues community by community. You see, at Humanitas, we don't give the funds to the national headquarters of these charities. Rather, we give to the regional chapters in the communities where the wine was sold. In this way, by enjoying Humanitas, you are giving back to your own community! But Humanitas is first and foremost about the wines. We are wine people -- pure & simple. Our goal is to make outstanding wines and sell them affordably. And we also want to 'do something good' for the world. We married these two passions and Humanitas was born. Humanitas is really delightful wine passionately crafted by a band of folks having a great time doing a good thing. We hope to change the world...one sip at a time! Please join us, and please tell your friends, family & co-workers who love good wine and might embrace our vision. It is so easy...simply go to the 'Wine Store' section of the site, place and order, and enjoy a wonderful bottle of wine knowing that your purchase is also helping those less fortunate. What a painless and, well, enjoyable way to contribute! Charity never tasted so good!! And remember to ask your favorite wine shops and restaurants to carry Humanitas. If we run out, we'll make some more!

Chardonnay Edna Valley
Think of ripe pears and golden-delicious apples with a hint of a something tropical, almost Riesling-like -- passion fruit perhaps? Dry, clean, and refreshing in the mouth. Enjoy a glass or two after work or with just about any sea food or fowl.

LHuile du Garagiste
Humanitas L'Huile du Garagiste or 'The Oil of the Garage Winemaker' is a tiny production (84 total cases) completely hand-crafted (literally hand picked, stomped, barreled, bottled and labeled) blend of 25% 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville in the heart of Napa Valley and 75% 2003 Sangiovese from the renowned Juliana Vineyard in Napa. The wine is stunning -- elegant, rich, full of leather and raspberries with a classic 'super-tuscan' earthy-ness. The finish is sublime. This is a stellar wine. L'Huile du Garagiste is also the first wine in the US sealed with the Zork cork from Australia. A brilliant invention that requires no wine opener, re-seals easily and eliminates any risk of cork taint.

Monterey County Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine is best described by the word 'fresh!' It is young, vibrant and full of life with abundant blueberry & cocoa aromas and flavors, with a fresh ground white pepper accent. It exudes the wonderful flavors of fresh picked grapes with the complexity of dark fruits, rich mouth feel and velvety tannins. It is complex, yet so very approachable...tasting great today...but easily aged for years.

Monterey County Merlot
This is no light-weight Merlot! The color is a deep purple, the aromas & flavors burst with rich chocolate, fresh picked blackberries, a little fresh ground pepper and a touch of smoked bacon -- sounds like breakfast wine...and lunch...and dinner...and everything in between!

Santa Barbara County Chardonnay
Vibrant, brilliant color with a luscious pear-like aroma. Think of ripe pears and golden delicious apples with a hint of tropical fruit like lichee and passion fruit. The wine is dry, clean and refreshing in the mouth. NO OAK!
