Old Hill Ranch winery was founded in 2000 by the four Bucklin siblings: Arden, Kate, Ted and Will. Will Bucklin has been a vintner for over 20 years, working in France, Australia, Sonoma, Mendocino and Oregon. Our certified organic, 24-acre vineyard is a dry-farmed Zinfandel field blend. Average yields of Old Hill rarely exceed one and a quarter tons per acre.

Bald Mountain Ranch Syrah
Bald Mountain Vineyard sits atop the Mayacama Mountain range between Mt. Hood and Mt. Veeder. This dry-farmed, terraced vineyard ranges in elevation between 1900 and 2100 feet, and lies within the three separate appellations: Sonoma Valley, Napa Valley and Mt. Veeder. Both night and day, temperatures tend to be lower than in the valley with the caveat that when the valley is fogged in, the vineyard is likely clear and sunny. The 2003 Bald Mountain Syrah is deep purple in color and very intense in aroma. Aromas begin with blackberry and follow through with black pepper and chocolate spice. There are also intense toasty oak and sweet vanilla aromas adding complexity. The mouth-feel is big and juicy with ripe lingering tannins on the finish.

Compagni Portis Vineyard Gewürztraminer
The wine, although distinctly characteristic of Gewürztraminer, is more subtle and austere than one might expect from this grape. Aromas of tropical fruits, rose blossoms, and apricot fruit dominate with a subtle background of spicy Gewürztraminer aromas. The palate has plenty of tropical fruit flavors with a lingering spicy finish. The acidity is firm but not overpowering and there is the slightest hint of sweetness on the finish. Perfect hot-weather wine - serve well chilled.

Mixed Blacks Red Wine
The Mixed Blacks is primarily a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, and Grenache. It is made from grapes we planted in 1999, trying to emulate the field blend of the ancient part of our vineyard. The difference lies in that these vines are about 115 years younger and are irrigated. The wine has amazing black cherry fruit intensity with lots of “Old Hill” spice, including nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Its supple tannins finish with a lingering richness and viscosity that make the wine easy to savor by itself. This wine is a great value.

Old Hill Ranch Zinfandel
The color of our signature Old Hill Zin is dark ruby and the aromas are wonderfully complex. There is an impressive array of sweet cherries, blackberries, plums and peppery spice that lend structure and depth. This depth of fruit can only come from old vines and it keeps revealing itself as layer upon layer unfold.
