Maryhill Winery

Maryhill Winery Far from a spin off of a multimarket winery, Maryhill started as a partnership between four individual wine enthusiasts with the common goal of making our mark as Washinton's producer of superior wines: Craig and Vickie Leuthold, with a combined experience of over 20 years in the wine industry, and family members Donald Leuthold and Cliff Brooks. On October 11th, 2000, we broke ground on the site adjacent to the Maryhill Museum of Art near Goldendale, WA. Chosen for it's unique micro-climate, the winery's grounds command a sweeping view of the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood while providing the vineyards with unparalleled protection and nourishment for fully ripened harvests. Designed to draw power from our setting rather than impose itself upon it, the winery offers guests the chance to host special events, picnic at the vineyards or simply taste our wines in the scenery that inspired them. Whatever the reason for coming, Maryhill gives visitors an experience long on memory with subtle tones to ensure their return.

  "Proprietor's Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon
Maryhill's second Reserve for Cabernet is an intensely lush and complex wine, showing all the characteristics of great Cabernets. Cedar, cassis and hints of tobacco combine with excellent length and finish. Serve with any hearty dish, such as Beef Bourguignon or a thick cut Filet Mignon.
  Cabernet Franc Rose
Maryhill’s first vintage of rose exudes everything strawberry—imagine raw fruit freshly picked off the vine. A slightly effervescent mouth feel reminds one of freshly squeezed lime in ice water. The brilliant pink color of this wine makes it a joy to swirl and sip.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a wine to please a wide range of palates. It presents a soft approach, yet solid structure. Aged in mixed American and French Oak for 24 months. This elegant, classy Cabernet is drinkable now and would be a welcome companion to any dinner table.
  Chardonnay
Complex flavors of ripe fruit define this Columbia Valley classic wine. This Chardonnay received 75% fruit-forward style fermentation and 25% malolactic fermentation. What results is a wonderfully contrasting blend of creamy, buttery flavors with those of pears and apple.
  Fort Rock Red
Maryhill's Winemaker's Blend, follow up to the ever popular and award winning Fort Rock Red, is a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. "A bordeaux with a twist." With an elegant oak background this rich and ruby red wine sparks with chocolate and cherry aromas. Formerly our Fort Rock Red, Same great wine, New Label.
  Gewurztraminer
Maryhill’s Gewurztraminer exudes a powerful medley of melon fruit. Flavors of crisp Granny Smith apples and Columbia Valley grown peaches are present leading to a pleasing creamy mouth feel. A long, lingering finish will keep you coming back for this sweet and spicy treat. Try it with your favorite spicy Thai food recipe.
  Grenache
If you haven’t been on a tour through Maryhill’s expansive barrel room yet, at least you’ll know what it smells like if you stick your nose in a glass of this beautifully aromatic Grenache. Your palate is awash with an amazingly diverse collection of flavors including candied fig, cinnamon, strawberry rhubarb and pickled asparagus. Maryhill’s first vintage of Grenache is wonderfully reminiscent of a classic Cotes du Rhone varietal.
  Merlot
Born of fruit from the prestine acres which surround Maryhill Winery, this vintage of Washington red contains elements which define Maryhill's winemaking "style" and commitment to high-quality, yet affordably priced wine. Soft on the palate and bright with flavor, this wine exhibits a lingering finish and soft undertones of oak.
  Pinot Noir
Maryhill’s third vintage of Pinot Noir was aged in a mix of French and American oak for almost two full years. The fruit for this wine comes from the heart of the Willamette Valley where Pinots are King. Complex and earthy, you’ll find notes of mulberry and freshly cut grass throughout this wine’s pleasing mid-palate structure. Try with lamb and freshly caught Columbia River Salmon.
  Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Franc
A fine French black grape variety, overshadowed by the more widely planted Cabernet Sauvignon, it has long been used as a blending varietal for big Bordeaux style wines. Although a beautiful blender, it has proven it deserves to perform as a solo act. A blend of two vineyard lots from Aldercreek Vineyards, this wine was aged in 1, 2 and 3 year old barrels of both American and French oak for 18 months. We think the rich and complex fruit of the wine will speak for itself. (360 cases)
  Proprietors Reserve Chardonnay
Sourced from the meticulously managed and high-pedigree Connor Lee Vineyards near Othello, WA, this Reserve Chardonnay is carefully crafted in the "sur lies" style wherein the wine stays on the lees or settled yeast for 10 months and stirred twice a month. This mixing creates the wine's silky mouth feel and toasty, hazelnut flavors.
  Proprietor's Reserve Malbec
Maryhill's very first presentation of this varietal, is one of the most commonly planted vines in Argentina, and is producing lush, prolific fruit here in the Columbia Valley. Black in color and intense blueberry on the palate with highlights of cherry. From its pleasing start to beautiful finish, this limited wine is sure to be remembered long after our limited supply is gone (380 cases).
  Proprietor's Reserve Merlot
The 2002 Reserve Merlot has been chosen from selected barrels, representing three different vineyards. The vineyards include Aldercreek Vineyards, Bailey Vineyards and our own Maryhill Estate Vineyards (Gunkel). Having aged for 18 months on 100% French oak this wine shows classic Merlot varietal characteristics. Chocolate covered cherries, espresso and a hint of smoke are framed in a firm tannin structure.
  Proprietors Reserve Sangiovese
Maryhill's first reserve for Sangiovese was aged in 100% new French oak to give it a beautifully balanced tannin structure. A floral nose leads to tastes of sweet cherry pipe tabacco, spiced tea and vanilla. This wine's full-mouth feel creates lasting soft and velvety textures your tongue is sure to enjoy. A single vineyard selection, the fruit for this reserve came from the Alder Ridge vineyard about 45 miles East of Maryhill.
  Proprietor's Reserve Serendipity
This wine is a blend of the royal grapes which comprise the finest Bordeaux's in the world. With our own percentages and special oak treatments, it makes this blend all our own. 40% Malbec from the Lonesome Spring Vineyards; 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from Eagle Ranch Vineyards; 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Conner Lee Vineyards; 20% Merlot from the Bailey Vineyards; and 5% Cabernet Franc from Groth Vineyards all spend 22 months on brand new oak, 95% of which is French and 5% which is Hungarian.
  Proprietor's Reserve Syrah
This rich concentrated expression of Syrah is the result of meticulous vineyard management and cellar care. It is made up of 75% Maryhill Estate fruit (Gunkel Vineyards) and 25% Groth Vineyards in Horse Heaven Hills. Aged for 16 months in a mix of French and American oak, we racked it into brand new barrels for four months to finish. Cane fruit, black pepper, herbs, cinnamon and blackberry are beautifully framed in tannins and subtle oak that have a long lingering finish.
  Sangiovese
Maryhill’s fourth vintage of Sangiovese is a spice lovers dream with hints of saffron, tarragon and vanilla bean on the nose. A first taste will reveal black cherry and bitter chocolate complimented by a mature oak background. This wine is the perfect compliment to light seafood dishes especially Dungeness Crab.
  Sauvignon Blanc
This sweeter style of Sauvignon Blanc emits a grassy and herbacious nose that will leave you dreaming of springtime wildflowers. Very ripe fruit gives this Bordeaux classic a refreshing, rainwater-like clean mouth feel complimented by a hint of green apple tartness. Great with seafood of all kinds--especially shellfish.
  Syrah
Maryhill’s fourth vintage of Syrah holds a wonderful blend of black cherry, cane berry and ripe plum flavors. Eighteen months of American and French oak aging has given this wine's complex earthy flavors. Try this wine with all hearty dishes including saucy pastas, pepper steaks or pork chops.
  Viognier
If you could taste the beauty of a honeysuckle you would find it in this Viognier. Maryhill's top selling wine year after year offers refreshing tropical fruit flavors softened with apricots & honey. Perfectly balanced with bright acidity on the finish, this "Cashmere" of white wine is sure to impress your guests.
  White Riesling
This third vintage of White Riesling from Maryhill has a beautiful straw color and a hugely tropical nose. A hint of vanilla extract makes this Washington State classic a wonderful compliment to pork or a host of other rich foods. Its smooth yet dry finish is perfect for summer sipping or paired with your favorite decadent appetizer.
  Zinfandel
The Leuthold Family & John Haw have once again proven that high quality affordable Zinfandel doesn't just come from California. Maryhill's fourth consecutive vintage is dense with cracked pepper, spices, cinnamon and Marionberry flavors. A deep cherry untertone leads to a lively and linering finish. Our signature wine once again leaves you wishing that there was an endless supply of this sophisticated and consistently satisfying pleaser.
