Brooks Winery

Brooks Winery Jimi Brooks developed his passion for winemaking while working for the Deschamps Family, in the Beaujolais region of France. He learned one of the most valuable lessons in winemaking: the quality of any wine comes from the care taken in the vineyard. Jimi returned to Oregon in 1996 and began working at WillaKenzie under the tutelage of Laurent Montalieu. He was fortunate to start his own label "Brooks Wines” while he continued as the Assistant Winemaker at WillaKenzie. In 2000, Jimi was recruited to join Maysara as Winemaker and Vineyard Manager. Brooks continued to grow to a successful 3,500 case production. Focusing his winemaking efforts on Riesling and Pinot Noir varietals, Jimi was a passionate and strong advocate leader about organic farming and biodynamic practices. By 2002, only organically farmed grapes were used to produce his wines. These farming techniques proved to be an important role in producing his unique style of Oregon wines. Despite Jimi's passing, Brooks wines are still available, a few of which he made, while the 2004 vintage wines were produced by some of his best friends and winemaking colleagues. Support for Jimi and his extraordinary vitality for the wine industry in Oregon is preceded by the on-going support for his young son Pascal who is the sole owner of the winery, and sister Janie Brooks Heuck who has extraordinarily volunteered to lead it.

  Ara Riesling
A constellation in the Southern Hemisphere (just south of Scorpius). Named after the altar of the centaur known as Chiron, who was half horse - half man and thought to be the wisest creature on Earth. Ara is also known as the altar that Noah built after the Great Flood. Ara Riesling is only produced when the stars are in the right alignment – it represents power, concentration and ageability. In just it's second year of production, Ara is already recognized as a cellar selection. Only the finest and most complex fruit was selected for this beautiful blend. It has a lovely golden hue color. Although it's a bit closed, there are aromas of slate, spice, apples, honey, peaches and hints of green tea. Tight and concentrated, the superb structure is harnessed by its well-integrated acidity. Wealthy with minerality and texture, Ara promises great things to come ... especially for those who are patient for 3 to 5 years. Only 90 cases were produced.
  Brooks Winery Amycas White 04
A delightful blend typically produced in Alsace: Riesling (44%), Pinot Gris (29%), Pinot Blanc (25%) and Gewurztraminer (2%). A brilliant gold color with green highlights. Crisp, floral and round with a touch of mineral undertones, gardenias, honey, lavender, nutmeg, peaches, limes and a hint of apricots, mangoes and pears. A unique wine that is unique to Brooks ... and like all wines, it's meant to be enjoyed with a variety of foods or on its own. 621 cases were produced.
Brooks Winery Pinot Noir "Janus" 03
Our flagship... the richest, most vibrant and intense blend that we produce. From rim to center, the color is rich and vibrant with highlights of dark garnet. The bright aromas of raspberries, cherries, strawberry jam, graphite, spice, nutmeg, earth and toasty oak are heightened with hints of blue fruits. On the palate, the wine follows with the aromatics and luscious fruit. A warm, dry year in the Willamette Valley pushing a vintage that was very big and succulent with fine tannins. The firm structure lends personality and persists effortlessly on the long and fine finish. Attractive now ... but will show considerable refinement with short-term cellaring.
Brooks Winery Pinot Noir "Runaway Red" 04
Aromas of dark fruits, bing cherries and hints of mushroom and earth. The palate is generous, bright, full of berries, finishing with clean acidity and very soft tannins. It is expected to take on more weight and complexity with time. As always... this is an accessible wine by nature and price!
Brooks Winery Pinot noir Corral Creek 01
Single vineyard Pinot noir from Yamhill County's Corral Creek Vineyard, at Chehalem Winery. Wine characteristics in Pinot Noir from Laurelwood are light to moderate red fruits, from strawberry to red cherry, carrying moderate to high tannins.
  Brooks Winery Riesling 04
The average age of vines from this vintage is 25 years old! Focused and intense with great purity and structure. Beautiful straw gold color with emerald highlights. Unfolds complex aromas of honey, wet stones, bee's wax, white flowers, lavender, citrus, orange peel and stone fruits. A great succulent attack on the palate with balanced acidity. The mid-palate is firm and juicy resulting in a long finish. The greatest reward will come to those who revisit this wine several times over the next five years! 526 cases were produced.
  Maysara Pinot Noir Delara 01/02
It's all about the terroir with this exquisite, very limited availability Pinot. A wonderful wonderful wine, polished and superbly well made. Highly recommended. A March 04 Avalon Reserve Pinot noir Wine Club offering. 2002 vintage shipping late summer 2004. Very limited.
  Maysara Pinot Noir Estate 01/02
Recommended by Avalon- lovely, complex, rich, great aging potential. 2002 vintage shipping July 2004.
  Rastaban Pinot Noir
A brilliant and deep purple color reveals right away that this dense Pinot is one of Mother Nature’s works of art. Although young and tight, the nose reveals aromas of new sweet oak, graphite, blueberries, earth, black raspberry, spice and blue plums. The wine coats the palate with a luscious fruit that is buttressed by ripe and full tannins. It finishes with great length and some rusticity. The 2003 Rastaban is an age-worthy wine and its exceptional depth, power and finesse needs at least short-term cellaring to allow its pieces to harmonize. Only 150 cases were produced.
  Tethy's Late Harvest Riesling Non-Vintage
A beautiful amber color with aromas of apricots, pears, honey and roses. A sweet and thick coating on the palate aligns itself with good balanced acidity. The graceful finish has a pure and supple concentration, with an intense finish lingering on the palate. Only 180 cases were produced.
  Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Very reasonable price for well made Pinot noir with pleasant red cherry and berry fruit, and warm spice. Balanced, no harsh edges, just rounded flavors with nice finish.
