We are pleased to announce the release of our newest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 Cañon Creek. With this new vintage, our little vineyard in the Napa Valley hills above St. Helena is continuing to show its ability to produce excellent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
Many winegrowers feel the need to blend other Bordeaux grape varieties into their Cabernet to achieve a breadth and depth of flavors— but our small site, planted to two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon (337 & 6), and judiciously farmed, gives us that broad spectrum of flavors on top of a focused Cabernet personality.
This vintage exhibits heady, varietal aromas punctuated by cherry, blackberry, with hints of vanilla, licorice. On the palate, these varietal aromas are complemented by generous and yet dense fruit; soft, enrobing and rounded tannins; and followed by a long, lingering, bright finish.
The 2004 was aged for 23 months in Darnajou French oak barrels (70% new and 30% once-filled). Darnajou, currently our favorite barrel, imparts delicate, sweet, toasted-oak components that integrate perfectly into our wines without being overly aggressive.
