MAWBY

MAWBY The first vines were planted here in the spring of 1973. The emphasis is on white table wines and methode champenoise sparkling wines, and most wines are made from our estate vineyards. The current annual production is just 2,400 cases, and the winemaking style remains pure -- barrel-fermented small lots made with only simple machinery and minimal handling.

Directions
Take M-22 north from Traverse City, approximately 8 miles. Turn west (left) on Hilltop Road, and go to the end. Turn north (right) on Elm Valley Road 1/2 mile to the top of the hill. Winery is on the right.

Brut Methode Champenoise Leelanau Peninsula Sparkling Wine. 'Spiced apple aromas... zesty and crisp... finishes in a complex, mature manner. Stylish.' Chiefly chardonnay grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in this bottle and aged en tirage before degorgement.
  Conservancy
EXTRA DRY Methode Champenoise Leelanau Peninsula Sparkling Wine. 'Candied fruit aromas... moderately full-bodied... classy, lingering fruit finish.' This cuvee benefits the Leelanau Conservancy. For each bottle sold, we contribute $2 to the Farmland Preservation Fund of the Leelanau Conservancy, a fund dedicated to the preservation of farmland in perpetuity. This allows landowners to realize some of the value of their property, while preserving the land for agricultural use.

SEC Methode Champenoise Leelanau Peninsula Sparkling Wine. 'Ripe fruit scents... mouthfilling fruit and toast flavors... soft and yummy.' Chiefly chardonnay grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in this bottle and aged en tirage before degorgement.
  Cremant
Brut Estate Grown Methode Champenoise Leelanau Peninsula Sparkling Wine. 'Aromatic, yeasty, nutty notes... medium bodied... with piercing fruit flavors and well balanced acidity.' Entirely estate grown in our Cremant vineyard, 100% from Vignoles grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. The juice is fermented in small oak barrels, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in this bottle and aged en tirage before degorgement.

DEMI SEC Sparkling Wine. 'Fine bubbles... ripe fruit aromas... soft, sweet flavors... lingering fine finish.' A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in a closed tank [the cuve close method]. The wine is then filtered, dosaged, and bottled.

Brut Estate Grown Methode Champenoise Leelanau Peninsula Sparkling Wine. 'Softly effervescent mousse... lovely, creamy-rich fruit gently supported by ripe acidity.' Entirely estate grown and from a single year's harvest: chiefly Pinot Noir with some Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. A blend chiefly of Marechal Foch and Pinot Noir grapes that are hand picked and carefully pressed. The juice is fermented in small oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in this bottle and aged en tirage before degorgement.

A blend of select wine grapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, then blended with reserve wines and fermented a second time in a closed tank [the cuve close method]. The wine is then filtered, dosaged, and bottled.

The juice is fermented in a solera system in small oak barrels and puncheons, then fermented a second time in this bottle and aged en tirage before degorgement.
