Lang & Reed Wine Company

Lang & Reed Wine Company Long ago, and it seems in a time gone by, Tracey and John Skupny thought it would be a unique idea to make the absolutely yummiest 100% Cabernet Franc wine from only the best 100% Napa Valley grapes. At least this idea was generally unique in all of California. Elsewhere in the world however, Cabernet Franc had already been king for centuries. In the Loire Valley for instance Cabernet Franc, also known as Breton, was THE red grape variety, but now that is getting on to a whole other story. It was in 1993 that they dreamed this whole Franc thing up and after all this time, two wines come forth to tell the tale. One, simply called Lang & Reed by those close at hand, has such a yummy, juicy personality it is deliciously ‘quaffable’. And yet that same friendly nature belies its gently veiled complexity. The other wine known as Premier Etage tells the tale of just how much stuffing Cabernet Franc can have: heady, aromatic and gracious as ever. These two Francs make gallant partners and together they revel in the unfolding tale of Lang & Reed.

  "Wild Hare" Rose
The color of this vintage of Wild Hare is darker than pink, yet more delicate than red, with the typical Cabernet Franc ‘blue' hint that glimmers on the edge. The aromas are fresh, fruity and reminiscent of baby strawberries with a slight brush of raspberries. The palate is richer than the aromas imply with strawberries layered with the deeper flavors of red cherry and cassis. The palate is rich and slightly svelte, lengthening the finish, drawing out all the charm that makes a rosé the memories of summer.
  Cabernet Franc
Showing clear and bright ruby red color with the lightest hint of violet on the edge, the wine displays aromas of fresh raspberries and red currants with scents of delicate dried herbs. On the palate the dried herb is evident with ample volume of sweet cherry, black currant and bell pepper that are accented by a hint of anise. The finish is bright and crisp with a cleansing touch of cherry pit and mild tannins.
  Premier Etage Cabernet Franc
This Premier Etage displays a dried flower and herb perfume mixed with top notes of berry fruit, vanilla and a touch of smoke. The flavors are a combination if the aromatic notes with a typical dark Swiss chocolate impression noted in previous vintages of the Premier Etage. The follow-through is intense as the combination of rich fruit, fine-grain tannin and ‘good’ wood provides the wine with ample structure and proportion. We always view the Premier Etage to be a ‘Vin de Garde’, or a wine to age, meaning that with proper cellaring the wine will display additional complexities and nuance.
  Premier Etage Cabernet Franc
The Lang & Reed 2001 Premier Etage, composed of 100% Cabernet Franc, is the sixth vintage release and emanates from two very distinct Napa Valley vineyards.
