  Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Ynez Valley
The grapes for this broad and well-structured wine were hand harvested following a brilliant, rain-free Indian summer. Grapes from the south side of the vines were selected for this special vintage of Cabernet which is reminscent of a fine Bordeaux in its Claret-like purity. After nearly 30 months of aging in French and American oak, 10% Cabernet Franc was added to bring in elements of blueberry and spicy perfume. The result is a rewarding drink indeed! And one that will age well over the next few years.
  Chenin Blanc
This is a dry, Savennieres-style Chenin Blanc. It was grown in a 30-year-old vineyard in the cool Los Alamos Valley under ideal conditions in 2004. Its honey, gowers, and ripe pear aromas plus smooth apple, quince and golden pear flavors prove the quality and worth of this often under-appreciated varietal.
  Dry Riesling
This is an Alsatian style Riesling in that it is drier than most German Rieslings and thus a better companion to lighter foods. It was cold fermented and aged briefly prior to an early bottling to capture the classic, honeyed, floral character of the noble Riesling grape. This wine should be enjoyed in the freshness of its youth and served moderatley chilled, and it will compliment many food types, including ethnic favorites.
  Firseside Port
Soils similar to those of the Duoro River homeland of Port give this wine intense notes of chocolate and nuts polished off by a mellow, fruity finish.
This is an Alsatian style wine produced from one of the finest vineyards for this temperamental varietal on the Central Coast. It was bottled early in the year to capture the uniquely spicy aromas and flavors of the grape on the day of harvest. This is a marvelous wine to serve moderately chilled with spicy Asian dishes, seafood, and French or German cuisines.
  Grenache, Santa Ynez Valley
This is a wine in the grand old style of Chateauneuf du Pape. It is produced entirely from the Grenache Noir clone which was legally imported from the Chateauneuf appelation during the 1990's. This clone has smaller berries, thicker skins and greater depth of color than the typical Grenache grape. After a long, two week fermentation the wine was racked to older French oak barrels for nearly three years of patient aging. Endowed with scents of roses, raspberries, chaparral and flavors of plums, dried cherries and blackberries, this wine should age well over the next four to six years.
Aged in French oak for 20 months, this is a noticeably smooth wine with subtle nuances and complexities. Look for ripe black cherry, leather and raspberry characteristics. Five percent each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were added to the final blend to enhance these qualitites.
This is a classic "left bank" Bordeaux-style wine that is based on Cabernet Sauvignon (60%)grown on alluvial, river valley soils. The Cabernet Franc (23%) is from the warm eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley and adds brightness and spicy perfume. The Merlot (12%) brings finesse and a touch of black cherry. The rare Petit Verdot (5%) adds color, structure and a hint of violet.
  Mirage Chardonnay
The grapes for this wine were hand harvested from a vineyard in the cool Santa Maria Valley. The exceptional character of the vineyard and vintage is captured in this vividly focused wine. Tropical fruit, golden apple, and pear, cinnamon, clove and spice saturate a palate infused with bright acidity, medium-full body, and superb fruit flavors.
  Oasis Chardonnay
This Chardonnay, from an outstanding source in the Santa Maria Valley ava, takes the road less traveled. Compared with most Chardonnays that rely on oak barrels or malolactic fermentation to deliver flavor, aroma and character, I simply cold fermented and bottled this beauty in its most natural state. Excellent well chilled with many styles of food or for sipiping as an apertif.
  Oasis Merlot
The 2004 vintage was the second consecutive year with a warmer than normal growing season and the fourth year of low rainfall. Both factors significantly reduced the size of the crop. Fermentation took place in small, open-top fermenters. Aging took place in seasoned French and American oak. The complex definition of aromas and flavors in this wine include black cherry, blackberry, blueberry and black currant. The blend in this wine includes 82% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot.
  Oasis Pinot Noir
After fermentation in small, open-topped fermenters, this wine was pressed into French oak barrels together with its lees for eight months of aging. This is a supple, velvety Pinot with abundant black cherry and kirsch aromas, a wide band of ripe cherry and cranberry flavors and a sikly long finish with moderate fine tanins. It will be showing well before the fall of 2005 and will continue improving over the nexxt 3-4 years.
  Shiraz, Santa Ynez Valley
Shiraz is the Australian name for Syrah. This 100% varietal wine was produced from a selected Shiraz clone planted in the Happy Canyon area of the Santa Ynez Valley. It was fermented for two weeks on the skins then racked to two and three year old American oak barrels where it aged for nearly three full years. It has a dark, nearly opaque color and rich, jammy fruit. Enjoy this unique Shiraz over the next five to seven years.
  Syrah, Paso Robles
This award winning Paso Robles Syrah is easily our best vintage since our first in 1997! Intense berry and jam components are complemented by the velvety soft finish. This is an exceptionally balanced wine. This Syrah is brightened by the addition of ten percent Grenache Noir and softened by extended aging in American and French oak barrels. While it is enjoyable now, this wine will be at its best over the next three to five years.
  Syrah, Santa Barbara County
2001 was a nearly ideal vintage with low rainfall and a long, warm growing season resulting in beautifully ripened fruit. The grapes for this wine come from three distinct clones: one Australian, one a newer French and one an older French clone. Five percent Grenache and Viognier were added to lend an element of currant and exotic perfume to this intense Syrah.
  Vixen Rose
A DRY Rhone Rose that will be a perfect partner for a spring or summer evening on the front porch. The first Rose under Jennifer Gehrs' Vixen label. Notice aromas of roses and ruby red grapefruit, followed by flavors of wild strawberry, hints of citrus blossoms, and fruit. Don't miss this very special 2 barrel bottling!
  Vixen Syrah, Harmony
"Harmony" is outgoing and gregarious with a bouquet that is bold with sun-ripened red raspberries and warm earth. The wine on the palate is both fruit-forward with bing cherries and memorable by its soft and lengthy tannins. Only 48 cases produced.
  Vixen Viognier
This wine is intensely floral and fruit-forward yet also completely dry. Enjoy its lovely bouqet of honeysuckle and wild, sweet pea flowers followed by rich flavors of pineapple and tropical fruit. This Viognier pairs beautifully with spicy Asian and Indian dishes such as Tandoori chicken and Kung Pao shrimp.
  Vixen Virtuoso, Cabernet Franc
Made by Jennifer Gehrs, her first Cabernet Franc under the Vixen label. This is a smooth and finessed Cab Franc, pleasant to all the senses and perfect with a wide variety of culinary delights. It is memorable with its sweet cherry fruit bouquet and its palatable and soft mouthfeel. Blended with 10% Merlot for enhanced aromatics and a softer finish, you will love this wine with dinner tonight!
