  Cariad Napa Valley Red Wine
The 2002 Cariad is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. This is the most deeply colored vintage of Cariad to date. The wine has vibrant clarity and aromatics. Fresh tones of red skinned fruits such as raspberries and black cherries lead to earthy, soil driven notes. The wine is exotic and the often elusive aroma of blood orange oil can be found after the wine opens up over time. The mouth feel is pure richness framed by ripe, supple tannins and fine acid structure. The wine was bottled in April 2004 without fining or filtration and will improve for decades or drink well near term.
  Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Our celebratory tenth vintage of Colgin "Herb Lamb Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon provides outstanding complexity for a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Like all of our 2001 wines the color saturation is nearly black on center. With a youthful red edge, these color descriptors indicate a ripe and complex vintage. Characterized by enticing aromas of red cherries set in a floral bouquet of intermingling jammy essences of berry fruits, the wine is reminiscent of a hedonistic, ripe California vintage. There is no shortage of ripe, sweet tannins intermixed with glycerin top notes. The wine was aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels for nearly nineteen months until we achieved the "elevage" indicative of the signature richness of the Colgin wines. Bottled carefully without fining or filtration, we feel that this wine will drink beautifully in three to five years and age gracefully for up to twenty years."
  IX Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The color and overall intensity of this Cabernet is a deeply pitched red to black. The wine has vibrant clarity which is indicative of a great vintage. Aromatics are also vibrant with a fresh tone of red skinned fruits such as cherries and even raspberries coupled with exotic spices such as tamarind. The complexity of this wine develops further to include earthy, soil driven notes as well. The mouth feel is pure richness framed by ripe, supple tannins and a fine acid structure. Bottled in February 2004, the IX Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was neither fined nor filtered. The wine will continue to improve with bottle aging or will drink well near term.
  IX Estate Syrah
An intense deep black with deep red on edge indicates ripe and varietally correct color in this syrah. In the glass, the wine has almost a black center which I feel gives a guarantee of further aromatic complexity developing and long aging potential. Initially, my impressions are of fresh ripe black cherries, intertwined with an earthy background. After just a few moments, there is a complex, savory note of white and black pepper and gamey meats, indicating a true relation between the varietal and the terroir. Across the palate, the wine shows off its pedigree and the wonderful vintage that 2002 is known for; high ripeness and hedonistic, racy tannin structure and uncanny fresh fruit notes. Bottled in February 2004 without fining or filtration, the 2002 IX Estate Syrah is drinking beautifully now but has the structure to age beautifully for ten to fifteen years.
Tychson Hill Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
In 2002 we celebrated not only our third vintage at Tychson Hill Vineyard but our first crush at the new state of the art, gravity fed winery. As winemaker, what I can never get over is how intense the Tychson Hill wine has become- like Pauillac on steroids! The terroir with its unforgiving volcanic soils of mostly rock and shallow gravel reveals itself in Tychson Hill Vineyard's plethora of aromatics. The color of this cabernet is deeply pitched red to black. The wine is vibrant and complex with notes of red skinned fruits, earth and exotic spices such as Tamarind. The tannins are ripe and supple and there is a fine acid structure. Bottled without fining or filtration, the wine will continue to improve with bottle aging or will drink well near term."
