Clovis Point Wines

Clovis Point Wines In 2001, the partners of Clovis Point purchased ten acres of farm land with a beautiful barn in the heart of the North Fork on the Main Road in Jamesport with a dream of creating a small top flight vineyard, winery and wine room geared towards lovers of wine, like ourselves. We all committed to investing sufficient resources to insure the quality we wanted both at the vineyard, the winery and in the tasting room. Indeed, the partners committed to reinvesting all sales proceeds back into the business for a least ten years with the hope that the grape and wine quality will improve every year. These wines, which are available for purchase now, may be tasted shortly in our incredible tasting room, the renovation of which is almost complete. We hope to meet you there soon.

  Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
Some of the same excellent chardonnay fruit from the 2004 vintage was fermented and aged in French oak barrels. This traditional method brought toasty, nutty and spicy background flavors to the pineapple and pear flavors of our fruit. The wine was kept on its yeast lees over several months, with occasional stirring before being allowed to settle and clarify. Bottled in August, 2005 and gaining harmony still, we like to drink this wine with creamy pastas, full flavored seafood, and herb crusted chicken
  Chardonnay
We fermented and settled this wine in stainless steel tank to retain the bright, fresh fruit flavors that the vintage gave us. Before bottling, we made our final blend with some barrel aged chardonnay (for character) and a splash of gewurztraminer (3% for an exotic note). The 04 Clovis Point Chardonnay was bottled in May 2005 and has developed smoothness and subtlety since then. We recommend this fruit rich wine with the East End’s freshest fish and farmstand vegetable dishes.
  Merlot
We found while aging the merlot that samples with some cabernet franc and also petit verdot blended in made for a distinctively appealing wine. Though still made from 85% merlot grapes, and thus still technically “merlot”, the combination with 7% cab franc and 8% petit verdot created a juicier, brighter, deeper flavor that reveals more character with every sip. We’re proud of this, our first flagship red, and hope you enjoy every glass as much as we do. We like this 03 Merlot with black olives, hard cheeses, and many kinds of roasted and grilled meats.
