Presidio Winery

Presidio Winery Presidio Winery follows that same pioneering spirit, producing varietals from vineyards whose soils and climates are best suited to each varietal's needs. The Burgundian varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, are from the 35 year old, 34 acre "Mission Vineyard" in the Santa Maria Valley. The Santa Maria Valley is perfect for producing Burgundian varietals, with prevailing winds from the ocean causing the valley to have a cooler summer, warmer fall and more moderate winter than the surrounding areas. On the U.C. Davis scale of heat summation, it is a very cool Region I, making it perfect to produce high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. On the other hand, the Bordeaux varietals, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, are produced from grapes grown in the upper reaches of the Santa Ynez Valley, where they thrive due to its slightly warmer climate. The Merlot is blended from hillside Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes chosen because of their exposure and stressful soils producing wines that are well extracted. The grapes are then crushed into small fermenters and punched down 3-4 times daily and are pressed into French oak barrels for 12-16 months of aging and bottled unfiltered. Starting with the highest quality grapes from selected regions and vineyards, Presidio Winery wines are hand-crafted and gently treated in every step of the winemaking process.
