Antica Terra
Antica Terra began in 1989 with the purchase of a rugged 28 acre parcel in the Amity Hills region of the Willamette Valley. The vineyard sits on a gently sloping hillside of well-drained soil, underlain by sandstone and siltstone, formed from old alluvian - la antica terra. A variety of Pinot Noir clones were densely planted in 1990. Yields are kept low to develop concentrated flavors, as well as to hasten ripening before the fall rains. The first vintage of Antica Terra was 1994 and the 1996 Pinot Noir was the first commercial release. Current production is still limited and until recently the majority of wine was available only by direct mail.

Willamette Valley Antica Terra
Bright ruby red color. Vosne-Romanée-like aromas of black cherry, blueberry, black plum, violet, pepper and tar. Juicy, bright and very intensely flavored, if a bit youthfully ungiving today. Sappy and dense for Oregon pinot; at once ripe and uncompromisingly dry. Finishes long and oaky, with firm tannins that call for a least a couple of years of aging. A serious, structured wine with impressive black fruit intensity and excellent grip and thrust. International Wine Cellar: Steve Tanzer
