Paraiso Vineyards

Paraiso Vineyards The Smith Family has earned its reputation through constant innovation, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The wines of Paraiso all benefit from the Santa Lucia Highlands’ unique climate and soils. Hand-crafted in limited releases, they beautifully express the flavor, style and terroir of this special place. Combining time-honored techniques with these advances, Rich’s son-in-law, winemaker David Fleming, practices his art: hands-on, barrel-by-barrel. The limited release wines of Paraiso are among the most awarded in the state, eagerly sought after by collectors across the country. Besides appearing on the shelves and lists of exclusive wine shops and restaurants across the country, Paraiso wines may be ordered direct from our Tasting Room.

  Eagles' Perch Chardonnay
High up on the mountainous Paraiso estate is one particular block of thirty year old vines, overlooked by a craggy oak tree – the favorite vantage point for a nesting pair of golden eagles. These few prized rows of Chardonnay grapes exhibit the true Paraiso "terroir” – rich tropical fruit characters backed by a focused, Burgundian minerality and crispness. For this very limited debut offering, winemaker David Fleming conducted a barrel fermentation in primarily two-year-old French cooperage. A four month “sur lie” stirring program added further complexity and mouthfeel. The resulting Blanc is a revelation: rich and powerful, yet balanced and food-versatile. "91 Points, Exceptional" - Wine Enthusiast
  Paraiso Chardonnay
Trademark top-flight Monterey County Chardonnay: rich tropical fruit allied to a creamy mouthfeel and toasty oak and vanilla nuances - all balanced by refreshing acidity. Excellent with richly-sauced poultry and seafood dishes. Gold Medal - West Coast Wine Competition
  Paraiso Pinot Noir
Paraiso's flagship varietal. Wonderful Burgundian character: rich cherry and plum flavors with hints of spice, smoke, and toasty oak. All wrapped by structuring tannins and acidity. Amazingly food-versatile: salmon, roast chicken, beef tenderloin, you name it... Gold Medal-Riverside International Wine Competition
  Paraiso Riesling
Cool climate Riesling from the Highlands. Crafted in a food-friendly Alsatian style, on the drier side. Beautiful peach and apricot fruit components are backed by an intriguing minerality and refreshing acidity. A perfect foil to any dishes with a touch of spiciness or heat, like Asian-Fusion or Thai cuisine.

  Paraiso Syrah
Monterey meets the Rhone: classic blackberry and cherry flavors married to spice and warm vanillin-oak. A wine to enjoy today but one that will reward patient cellaring. Try it with just about anything off the grill! Gold Medal - Central Coast Wine Challenge.
  Pinot Noir Rose
Many great Pinot Noir estates in Burgundy and California yearly craft small amounts of a Vin Gris or Rosé style wine. For this very limited, debut Paraiso Rosé, Pinot Noir juice was “bled off” prior to full skin contact and fermented separately, retaining a beautiful pink hue. Served slightly chilled, this youthful rosé is elegant and dry. While delicious as an aperitif, the wine’s bright cherry and spice character will also prove a charming accompaniment to lighter spring and summer fare. Less than 200 cases produced.
  Souzao Port
A luscious port-style dessert wine: rich berry and chocolate flavors wrapped in warm vanillin-oak. A long-time ""Tasting Room-only"" favorite with our visitors.
  Wedding Hill Syrah
Only a few barrels were produced off the Wedding Hill section of the estate - so named for the Smith family nuptials and events held on its elevated terraces. "88 Points, Recommended" from Robert Parker!
