Athena Vineyards & Winery

Athena Vineyards & Winery Athena Vineyards was established in 2002 by three friends active in the Health Care industry. We enjoy healthy lifestyles, working in the vineyard and the finer things in life. Our interest in winemaking led to the construction of our winery in 2005 and our tasting room doors opened on Saturday, May 27, 2006. Athena has become the first commercial vineyard and winery in Northumberland County, Virginia.

Products

  Athena's Rosé
A summer blush wine for outdoor cooking of red meat and poultry. Will also complement crab and oyster dishes. Indispensable at a picnic.
  Athena's Sweet White
Late harvest white blend dessert wine with mellow taste. Goes with any dessert and is particularly good with chocolate.
  Athena's White
We designed this crisp wine for typical Chesapeake Bay seafood. You will enjoy the fruity aromas and delicate taste of this blend of Vidal blanc and Seyval blanc grapes.
  Cabernet Franc
This light red wine aged in French oak is one of the classic red wines of the Loire Valley. It goes well with beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game, and especially with spicy dishes.
  Cabernet Sauvignon/ Merlot Blend
Produced according to Bordeaux regional standards and aged in French oak. This wine is the aristocrat of the red wines, with a dark peppery bouquet. Goes with any meat or game. Ideal with Chesapeake duck.
  Chardonnay
Produced from Chardonnay fermented in French oak barrels is a prestigious wine typical of the Burgundy region. It is a dry wine with tones of citrus underlying a buttery taste. Ideal wine as a drink and with seafood, French and Northern Italian foods.
  Galleon Treasure Red
In the 17th century Spanish conquistadors brought red wines in their galleons to the New World. These wines, similar to the 70% Chambourcin and 30% Cabernet Franc in this bottle, were prized by the Brotherhood of the Coast and other buccaneers. A galleon full of this wine was a treasure worth fighting for! Galleon's Treasure is a hearty and full, aromatic dry red wine that goes well with grilled meats and barbecues.
  Meritage
Meritage (pronounced like "heritage") was named by a group of American vintners to identify hand-crafted wines blended from the traditional "noble" Bordeaux varietals. Athena's 06 Meritage was made with a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot. The blend was aged in new French oak barrels from the forests of central France. The 12.7% alcohol content was chosen to preserve the elegance of this wine. The mellowness and soft tannins with hints of vanilla and chocolate make Athena's Meritage a perfect match for beef and game meats.
  Nightingale Red
Made with Chambourcin grapes, this semi-dry, aromatic wine goes well with seafood, beef, lamb, port, game, pasta and spicy foods.
