Detert Family Vineyards

Detert Family Vineyards Thank you for your interest in Detert Family Vineyards — Located in Napa Valley’s celebrated Oakville district, at the base of the Mayacamas Range, adjacent to Crabb’s historic To Kalon estate, our family vineyard has grown ultra-premium Cabernet Franc for four generations. Over the years, our vines have helped establish Napa Valley, and particularly Oakville, as the premier Cabernet winegrowing region in the world. Our mission is to produce exceptional wines that reflect the characteristics of the region and our vineyards’ rare, yet ideal growing conditions. We hope that you find our wines to be as special as we do. As a small winery with limited production, our wine is available only via mailing list and through select restaurants and wine shops. Our vintage 2002 wines were recently released. Detert Family Vineyards is pleased to offer three wines from our family’s vineyards in Oakville. The release of our outstanding 2002 vintage includes our flagship Cabernet Franc, plus some new and exciting additions – our first bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon!

2002 Horton East Block Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Wow! Rich nose of sweet black cherry, raspberry compote, mineral and anise. Deep and concentrated with a rich, firm mouthfeel. Shows layers of flavors with black cherry, minerals, toasty oak and dark chocolate. Serious depth and richness here. Long, complex finish. It’s pretty fantastic right now but needs some air and a rare steak to pair with the firm tannins. A wonderful wine that will age for decades.
  2002 Oakville Cabernet Franc
Deep, dark-purple color. Explosive nose of violets, blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, herb, cassis, vanilla and hints of spice. Rich, concentrated and deep. A big, structured mouthful of blackberry, coffee and cocoa powder. Notes of herb, spice and mineral follow. Tannins are ripe and firm and framed by bright acidity. The finish is long and complex, with the dark chocolate, coffee and cassis flavors pushing along. A powerful, yet elegant Cabernet Franc that will benefit with age or can be drunk now with meat or roasted vegetable dishes.
  2002 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Complex aromas of rich blackberry, black cherry, currant, cedar and vanilla. Juicy on the palate with tiers of flavors led by ripe black cherry and currant then turning more complex with mineral, earth and seductive dark chocolate flavors. Long, lingering finish with intriguing notes of spice and fruit. This wine is very complex, concentrated and powerful with a firm tannic structure. Very young now and will benefit from years in the cellar. If you are planning to drink this now, it would be fantastic with a rare steak.
  Oakville Cabernet Franc
Wonderful aromas of blueberries, blackberries and violets with a background of cocoa and sweet herbs. Fruit, cocoa and sage flavors push through to complex mineral, cocoa and toast notes that linger on the long finish. This has rich texture and well integrated tannins. Delicious now, especially after a few hours in a decanter. The 2003 Cabernet Franc should hit its stride in five years and drink well for ten.
