Alban Vineyards

Alban Vineyards California's first winery and vineyard established exclusively for Rhone varieties: Viognier, Roussanne, Syrah and Grenache. The Edna Valley vineyard is family-owned by John Alban. At an early age he fell in love with Rhone wines, and started his vineyard in 1989. In the cool climate valley, he grows 50 acres of Viognier, Rousanne and Syrah, with an additional 30 more plantable acres on his 250-acre ranch. From vineyards of the Paso Robles area he buys the heat-loving varietals Grenache and Mourvedre. His first vintage came from leased space, of which the next year his own winery was put in operation. The pioneering efforts of Alban Vineyards have opened a new frontier here, and garnered significant acclaim. Many French and U.S. producers have followed Alban's lead and located in our region to produce unique and outstanding "Rhones". His current products include Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, and a red Rhone proprietary blend. His several early vintages have gained notoriety among the Viognier leaders, with his Rousaane, regular, and Reserve bottlings also of fame.

  Central Coast Syrah
  Estate Viognier
The 2004 Viognier exhibits the smoky, exotic side of this varietal. Notes of honeysuckle, peaches, and apricots along with good underlying acidity are found in this ripe, medium to full-bodied, fragrant Viognier. It is best consumed during its first year of life.
