Famous Fossil Vineyard & Winery

Vines were planted in 2004 on the hillsides of the 22 acre northern Illinois farm. The winery,
built in 2007, overlooks the vineyard and the beautiful rolling countryside. A stream meanders
through the farm attracting birds and wildlife throughout the year. Famous Fossil wines are
made from cold climate grape varieties, having distinct characteristics that reflect the
climate, the soils and the culture of the Midwest. This is called terroir in France and has
been termed "somewhereness" by Matt Kramer in his book Making Sense of Wine.
When you taste Famous Fossil wines, you are tasting the Midwest!

Directions
Famous Fossil Vineyard & Winery is located 5 miles north of US Route Hwy 20 at Freeport, IL. Take the Freeport/Monroe/Hwy 26 exit and travel north to Cedarville. At the Mobil Gas in Cedarville, turn right or east onto Cedarville Road. Go east 1/2 mile. If you're coming from the northeast, take Highway 75 to Cedarville Road, which is just south of Dakota. Turn west or right onto Cedarville Road and go 4 miles. From north in Wisconsin, take WI Hwy 69/IL Hwy 26 south into Cedarville. Turn east or left at the Mobil Gas Station, go 1/2 mile and you're there.

This fruity white wine is a blend of our LaCrosse, Prairie Star, Briana & Petite Ami white grapes. It is a Pinot Grigio style wine with forward fruit and a hint of sweetness - perfect for sipping, with fish or chicken & should be served slightly chilled.

We were given a bottle of Fossil White and was so very pleased with it's delicious smoothness and flavor!
We must have another bottle. We live 100 miles away from Freeport in Waukegan, IL.
