McManis Family Vineyards

McManis Family Vineyards McManis Family Vineyards is a grower and vintner of premium varietal winegrapes located near the cool confluence of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus Rivers, just south of Lodi, now known as the River Junction appellation. The company was founded in 1990 by Ron and Jamie McManis - fourth generation family farmers. The McManis family has been growing grapes in this region since 1938. McManis Family Vineyards currently operates over 1200 acres of winegrapes and after the 1997 harvest, a state-of-the-art winery was designed and built to maximize the resulting wine's quality through small lot handling, whole cluster pressing and barrel storage and fermentation.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Coupled with a deep ruby-purple color, the aroma for the 2005 has a very distinctive blackberry component that is layered with hints of clove and mocha spiciness. The fruit on the palate has a richness and density that is supported by substantial levels of tannins. A roasted heavy toast oaken finish lingers for an extended period.
  Chardonnay River Junction Appellation
The 2006 Chardonnay is medium straw in color. Pears, pineapple and hints of tropical fruit are accompanied by scents of vanilla and marshmallow. The various fruits are very evident on the palate and enveloped in the creamy texture of this wine. The finish is succulent.
  Merlot
Ripe fruit flavors give the wine a delightful brightness and a distinct fruit forward orientation. The oak flavors provide a rich creamy texture that is free of astringent tannins. The finish is lengthy and full of toasted oak that lingers on the palate. Deep purple color, with youthful bright hues characterize this wines appearance. The aromas feature ripe dark red fruits; boysenberry, loganberry and blackberry. A bouquet of toasted oak with hints of milk chocolate compliments the aromas.
  Petite Sirah
The 2005 is a classic Petite Sirah bouquet with bright, succulent jammy fruit, soft tannins and a well balanced oaky finish. With dark rich colors, the wine has a wonderful rich blackberry and spicy aroma.
  Pinot Grigio
The color is of light straw. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon, lime and peach fuse with a subtle flintiness. The wine is medium bodied, yet crisp and refreshing. Tangy citrus and mineral flavors found on the pallet lead to a clean short finish.
  Pinot Noir
Our first Pinot Noir is a winner. With the bulk of the fruit coming from our own River Junction vineyard, we are looking forward to providing a consistent and high quality for wine for many years to come. The grapes were harvested between August 30 and September 6, 2006 - with Brix at harvest averaging 24.8. The 2006 Pinot Noir is medium ruby in color. A layer of hazelnut, which is contributed from oak, accompanies aromas of ripe cherries and plums. Rich fruit flavors with hints of milk chocolate linger in the elegant finish.
  Syrah
The 2005 vintage has a very good depth of color with youthful ruby/garnet hues. The succulent fruit flavors lead to a toasted oak mid palate and then on to a finish of cocoa and spicy oak. The aromas are of dense, big jammy fruit; raspberries and plums. The bouquet delivers a nice complexity of sweet vanilla.
  Viognier
Medium straw in color. Aromas of Peach, Pear, Apricot and Melon are accompanied by underlying mineral notes. The apricot found on the nose carries over to the flavor of this rich wine. Ripe Pear and Melon accompany it. The finish is long, faintly flinty and clean, with hints of citrus.
  Zinfandel
With the majority of grapes coming from the Lodi region, the 2005 Zinfandel has a wonderful ripe raspberry bouquet with classic Zinfandel characteristics – including Strawberry and Blueberry with undertones of chocolate, mocha and oak. With a bright Raspberry and Cassis flavor, the wine is medium bodied and has a clean fruit finish. After over 4 years of trying to find the right growers for a McManis quality Zinfandel, we are very pleased with our first release and hope you will be, as well.
