Marburg Estate Winery
|
|
The name Marburg Estate derives from the Hamlet of Marburg, which has rested beneath the waters of Lake Marburg since 1967 when Codorus State Park was created. The hamlet was named for a city in Central Germany known as Marburg an der Lahn or Marburg on the Lahn river. It was founded in 1527 by Philip of Hesse, a famous German Monarch. The land around the city is part of the beautiful Rhine Valley, which is known for some of the finest German wine. Located on the northern tip of Lake Marburg near Hanover, Pennsylvania lies the vineyard of Marburg Estate. The vineyard was started in 1988 and has sold grapes and juice to wineries in Maryland and Pennsylvania since 1995. Our 2 acres of vineyard contains 13 different varieties of grapes. In July 2003, Marburg Estate became a bonded winery, making it the first winery in the Hanover area. With 17 years of experimentation and wine making experience our vintner has developed an assortment of wines that will satisfy even the most particular taste.
