Ecluse Wines

Écluse is French for the locks on the canals that gently carve their way through the remarkable French wine country. In Paso Robles is the winery of Lock Vineyards, the creation of Steve and Pam Lock, known for producing some of Paso Robles most sought-after grapes. The Locks have provided fruit to and created relationships with some of the Central Coast's best known wineries including Talley Vineyard and Winery for their Bishop's Peak label, SummerWood Winery, Chateau Margene, Linne Calodo Cellars, Four Vines, Cellars, Norman Winery, and Vina Robles Winery. It was a natural progression from grower to winemaker for the Locks who now create a limited production of hand-crafted award winning wines.
Our goal at Lock Vineyard is to produce exceptional fruit for our wine. Our grapes are carefully tended and hand harvested at their peak, fermented in open bins and aged in French and American Oak for 18 months. We hope provides you with a memorable experience by delighting your palate as you enjoy our distinctive wine with family and friends! "Ensemble"
The word "ensemble" is described as "all the parts of something put together that are in harmony" and that truly describes "Ensemble". This unique handcrafter blend consists of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 12% Petit Verdot. The wonderful nose invites you to explore the harmony of these marvelous varietals as you discover the layers of fruit and spice flavors, the subtle, approachable tannin structure and the long lingering finish. As is true with all our wines, "Ensemble" especially benefits from decanting and/or opens up dramatically in the glass. Only 220 cases of incredible "Ensemble" were produced!

Cabernet Sauvignon
What to say about the Cab other than to say "Wow! This is good!". Again this '04 resembles our '02 vintage as a Cabernet that is rich, bold and velvety smooth wine that displays a gorgeous ruby garnet color. A classically structured wine with aromas of black cherry, currant, blackberry, coffee and chocolate. This wine is extremely approachable an with its long, smooth finish, makes this wine a delight to the palate. only 169 cases of this wonderful Cabernet were produced.

Syrah
The '04 Syrah will be welcomed by those of you who loved our 10 and 02 Syrahs. Fruit for this vintage was sourced primarily from Lock Vineyard with a small addition from the Jensen Vineyard, both on the Westside area of the Paso Robles appellation. The color is richly dense with deep garnet hues. The nose is fruity with overtones of spice, bery, beef, cherry and just a hint of chocolate. Layers of complexity are countered with a well-balanced acid and tannic structure. For such a young wine it has a smooth mid-palate and a long lingering finish. Is is very approachable now and will improve with age over the next seven to ten years. Only 140 cases of this exemplary wine were produced.

Zinfandel Lock Vineyard
This is the first vintage of Zinfandel from the Lock Vineyard. Since other winemakers have raved about the Lock Vineyard Zinfandel grapes, we felt it was time to offer it under our label. The wine carries on the long tradition of Paso Robles Zinfandels with its richness and jammy characteristics. It is a very fruit forward wine with strong notes of blackberries, a balanced acid-tannin structure, a smooth mid-palate and long finish. Even though it is a big Zin, it is very food friendly and pairs well with hearty heat dishes and deserts. Only 75 cases of this wonderful Zinfandel were produced - get it while it lasts!
