Brown Estate Winery
|
|
The seeds for Brown Estate were planted in 1981, when a family friend told us of a rough-hewn property for sale in the Napa Valley. Upon seeing the land, our parents fell in love with the rolling hills, rambling walnut groves, and majestic oak trees that populated what we now affectionately refer to as "The Ranch." After refurbishing the hundred-year old Victorian home that barely stood on the property when we acquired it, we planted our first ten acres of hillside Zinfandel in 1985. Five years later, having begun to acquaint ourselves with the fundamental nuances of grape-growing, we planted another forty acres that included Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as more Zinfandel. For ten years we farmed the land, selling all of our fruit to a variety of small wineries in the Valley. During that period of continuing education, we became increasingly versed in the maddening, exhilarating, and ultimately sublime exigencies of cultivating vineyards. We work to maintain, nurture, and encourage the land in a fashion that yields what we believe to be exquisite fruit, while simultaneously remaining mindful and respectful stewards of the property.

Chiles Valley Zinfandel
This highly focused single vineyard wine has dense gemstone clarity
that ranges from dark ruby to amethyst at the rim. The layered nose
reveals creamy caramel, white chocolate, and jammy fruit aromas. It
is plush on the palate, with extended, luxuriant notes of black cherry,
blueberry and cranberry. The lingering finish is punctuated by traces
of rich cinnamon spiced orange zest and black pepper.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Before you have a chance to notice the color, this wine hits you with fragrant boysenberry and smoky chocolate notes. The dense royal-magenta color leads to the plush palate and layers of ripe dark berries, plum, and crem de cassis with hints of espresso, mocha and dusty valhrona chocolate. Fine integrated tannins give grip to the finish while deep flavors leave a lasting impression of complexity and finesse.

Napa Valley Zinfandel
This generous and impeccably balanced wine displays a deep ruby hue with a
violet flare at the edges. Its brilliant clarity in the glass signals a highly
structured, polished and lush zinfandel. Subtle overtones of ground nutmeg
and creamy vanilla on the nose add depth to hallmark Brown Estate notes of
hibiscus flower and fresh fruit blossom. Gripping tannins give way to deep,
generous and concentrated flavors of black cherry and blueberry, with a hint
of dried apricot on the long finish.

Napa Valley Zinfandel
This wine has a deep garnet color with a subtle blue tint. The nose opens in layers with a flush of exotic fruit blossom integrating with classic autumn spice and a clean black cherry core. The mouth feel is lush and full with a firmness and backbone that hold the multifaceted flavors in balance. Rich, dark fruit has an alluring tropical thread that has become a hallmark of Brown Estate zinfandel. Subtle wood notes are traditional cardamom, cinnamon, burnt sugar, and cream. We expect these to intensify with age, drawing out the buried bitter chocolate and tobacco notes. Tannins are gently responsive, giving way to a finish that is expressive and long.
