Cloud View Vineyards

Cloud View Vineyards The area called Pritchard Hill lies in the Vaca Mountains just east of the valley floor vineyards of Rutherford and Oakville, and south east of Lake Hennessey (constructed in 1946). Although well known for its vineyards (including Cloud View, Chappellet, Martin, Bryant Family, Harrison, Long Family, Colgin, and David Arthur), Pritchard Hill is not an official AVA. The USGS topographic map labels a precise point as Pritchard Hill but now the name refers to the general area. Interestingly, the USGS point is not on the summit, about 1500 ft.elevation, but on a slope-platform at about 650 ft. In the 1870s, when the Pritchard family grew grapes here, Lake Hennessey did not exist. From the floor of Conn Valley (now at the bottom of the lake) the “Hill” probably seemed higher. The Pritchard’s neighbors in the 19th century, the Conns and the Sages, also grew grapes in the valley and left their names on today’s landmarks—Conn Dam and Sage Canyon Road.

  Proprietary Estate Red Wine
Mountain-grown fruit leads the first sip of this wine straight to intense flavors of dark, ripe currants, plums and cherries. Fresh herbs and spices, including wild sage, tea and sweet-earth, truly exemplify the red soils of our vineyard. Warm toasty scents reveal a careful hand with the French oak. Tannins are warm and round with velvety polish. The wine’s concentrated mouth-feel carries its tasty black fruit flavors across the palate from a plush start to a long lingering, pleasant finish..
  Proprietary Estate Red Wine
Black fruit flavors prevail — blackberries, cherries, blueberries, and plums... with heady aromas of violets, licorice, and black walnuts. We think this is our best wine to date. This very well balanced wine holds its promise from smooth entry, to a full awakening of the palate, and a fine pleasantly lingering finish.
  Proprietary Red Table Wine
Blended from estate grown fruit, 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, Cloud View 2000 is enjoyable now and well worth cellaring. This wine is delicious and balanced from approach to finish. A dense, velvety entry introduces a graceful structure of sturdy but gentle fruit tannins. The balanced blend enhances the flavors of black mountain fruit. Dark cherries, cassis, plums, black berries, leather and chocolate are spiced with notes of ginger and fennel. Skillful management of oak balances the diverse fruit tastes.
  Proprietary Red Table Wine
Cloud View Vineyard's 1999 Proprietary Red Table Wine is rich with intensely dark ripe fruit, round mid-palate and a long lingering finish of velvety tannins. The myriad of aromas includes anise and fennel, black olive and wild ginger, and is supported by a solid base of dark fruit and the toasty vanilla of fine French oak. On the palate, the ripe fruit opens up to hues of raspberry, blackberry, and dark black cherry with subtleties of lavender. The tannic backbone, which draws itself directly from this mountain site, weaves seamlessly with the warmth of creamy oak.
