Oak Savanna Vineyard

Oak Savanna Vineyard We specialize in producing exceptional, small fermentation lot, hand-crafted artisanal wines reflecting the true characteristics and expressions of our vineyard, which is located in Los Olivos, on Foxen Canyon Road. Oak Savanna Vineyard produces outstanding, limited production Chardonnay and Syrah. In addition to producing wines from the grapes we grow on our Estate, we offer wines from grapes grown in vineyards with microclimates better suited to those varietals, including Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines are bottled under the Oak Savanna Cellars label. Both Oak Savanna Vineyard and Oak Savanna Cellars wines are made under the supervision of our winemaker Andrew Murray.

  Oak Savanna Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
"This wine is a pleasant surprise for a Bordeaux varietal wine from the Santa Ynez Valley. The wine jumps out of the glass with a fruit note of blueberries and blackberries before you even get the telltale notes of cigar box, and dusty earth that is so typical of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has good balance with an underlying core of younger (yet ripe) tannins hinting at a long future for this wine." - Andrew Murray, Winemaker
  Oak Savanna Cellars Sauvignon Blanc
"This first ever Sauvignon Blanc for Oak Savanna Cellars comes from a wonderful vineyard in the Santa Ynez valley that grows the Musque clone of SB. It is known more for its bright tropical fruit flavors than the typical “grassiness” of Sauvignon Blanc. We chose to harvest it relatively early to retain a nice acid balance; so this wine is quite a refreshing quaff on a warm day. It was fermented mostly in Stainless Steel to further preserve the fruit flavors and the natural freshness of the wine." - Andrew Murray, Winemaker
  Oak Savanna Cellars Syrah
"Fruit forward and complex nose mostly of raspberries, black cherry, and a jaminess that hints at the ripeness of this wine. Very full bodied, yet remarkably balanced at the same time. The wine would be perfect to enjoy in its youth, but able to age for 2-5 years. There is plenty of spiciness to balance the fruitiness in this wine. The spice notes are mostly comprised of freshly crushed white pepper, and a vanilla note from the indulgent oak ageing. The wine was aged for 20 months in barrel prior to bottling, yielding a soft and lush wine that would be at home on the dinner table or simply by itself with great friend." - Andrew Murray, Winemaker
  Oak Savanna Chardonnay
"This is a wine that truly expresses the unique terroir of Oak Savanna rather than the simply tasting like the barrel producer’s ego. The wine is full of pear, green apple, and a hint of citrus and mineral notes with a richness that is balanced by the natural acidity resulting from the cool growing conditions. Malolactic was encouraged on only a portion of the wine, which gives the wine a creamy and rich and yeasty mouthfeel without the overtly “buttery” aromas of most Chardonnays. The wine is thus a perfect blend of new world winemaking, giving the lushness and fruit, and old world winemaking, yielding pedigree and refinement. As hinted at above, we chose to use a mix of new and once and twice filled French Oak barrels to allow the greatness of the vineyard shine through rather than simply letting the wine hide behind such an oaky fortress as is typical with Chardonnay." - Andrew Murray, Winemaker
Oak Savanna Vineyard One Thousand Hills
This is the debut, and very limited, vintage of this proprietary blend, whose name conjures up images of the native terrain of the Oak Savanna Vineyard. It is made up of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine is as unique as the place from which it comes. It is very fruit-forward for such a young wine, with aromas and flavors of black cherry, blueberry, and cassis. It is complexed with spicy notes that include black pepper, tar and toasy oak. The wine will be bottled soon, and then released in the fall, after sufficient bottle aging.
