Paradigm Winery

Paradigm Winery Paradigm Winery, located in the Oakville appellation of Napa Valley, hand-crafts small quantities of estate-bottled red wine. We're known for our Merlot and our Cabernet Sauvignon, though we also produce a tiny amount of Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc. Regardless of the varietal, our wines are a rich expression of the vineyard we've been farming now for twenty-eight years. Paradigm Winery is owned and managed by Ren and Marilyn Harris, two winegrowers with extraordinarily deep roots in Napa Valley. Marilyn's grandparents immigrated from Italy to Napa Valley in 1890, while Ren's family came to California in 1769. Marilyn and Ren purchased Paradigm Vineyards in 1976, and began producing wine with the 1991 vintage. Since that first vintage, the wines have been made by renowned winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett. Heidi's father, Dick Peterson, was instrumental in laying out and designing the winery.

  Cabernet Franc
Our Cabernet Franc was particularly good this year. It shows deeper, riper tones than normal and is quite rich and more exotic than we usually see. The blend has a small bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in it to complete the wine. It has hints of blueberry and cola in the nose, with similar lush fruit flavors in the mouth. Round and ripe, I really like the balance of this wine.
  Cabernet Franc, Oakville
We only make a tiny bit of this Cabernet Franc every year but it is well worth the effort. Classic elements of violet and blueberry are enhanced by a touch of black cherry character coming from a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon in this blend. It has a nice sweet roundness in the middle palate, similar fruit character to the nose, and very light dusty tannins. Balance is quite silky yet lively. This is a delicious and elegant Cabernet Franc
  Cabernet Sauvignon
A dense, concentrated wine from a classic, great vintage. The aromas show characters of the earth; sun baked ripe berry, briar and black cherry. Quite big, round and mouth filling on the palate. The flavors match the aromas nicely. The wine is rich and ripe in the mouth, has tons of fruit character, and is presented in a silky though powerful and elegant style. Tannins are subtle and read more as a textural element. A serious wine. Enjoy!
  Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby red in color. The aromas are of sweet ripe fruit and toasty, carmel-like French oak. The fruit character is of black cherry and plum. Flavors match the aromas with emphasis on the fruit of the vineyard accented with the complexities of the barrel. The 2000 vintage produced a wine that is softer than the 1999 and won’t require as much bottle age. This is a medium bodied wine with light soft tannins, tons of lush fruit character and an overall harmonious balance. A lovely, easy to drink wine.
  Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville
It strikes me on tasting this 2002 Cabernet how consistent the wines of Paradigm have been. Other than slight vintage variation, the aromas and flavors are remarkably similar year to year. Again this vineyard has produced a beautiful ruby/garnet colored wine. Aromas of ripe cherry, berry, and plum are accented with a complimentary dose of sweet toasty French oak. The front dominates in the nose and mouth. Very big, round and mouthfilling. Silky yet powerful tannins are light but add structure. An easy wine to drink and enjoy.
  Merlot
This medium garnet colored Merlot reveals ripe plum and black cherry fruit aromas. Subtle spiciness and toasty oak enhance the nose. Fleshy and soft in the mouth, the flavors match the aromas with the predominate character of plum and black cherry. This is a medium bodied, easy to drink Merlot, with soft tannins and a silky soft balance.
  Merlot, Oakville
This 2002 Merlot is garnet in color with a bright cherry plum nose and layers of nice spice and toast. A broad, mouth filling, ripeness makes this wine a real crowd-pleaser. Silky soft tannins add to the elegant rich style of this wine. A very long finish and lovely balance makes for a delicious Merlot.
  Zinfandel
This ruby-toned Zinfandel has a hearty, spicy, raspberry and black pepper nose. Optimum ripeness comes through in the aromas and especially on the palate. A combination of French and American Oak was used light- handedly, only to enhance the fruitiness and add a bit of toasty, spiciness to the wine. A delightful Zin, bright and lively in the mouth with good length and balance, is made in a very limited quantity.
  Zinfandel, Oakville
Our 2002 Zinfandel is dark ruby in color with aromas of red raspberry, black pepper, and vanilla. The wine has very nice ripeness, lively acidity and good balance. My overall impression is of a fully ripe Zinfandel with medium body that is quite tasty.
