Miner Family Winery

Miner Family Winery Miner Family Winery is a dynamic family owned winery tucked into the eastern hills of the Oakville appellation, squarely within the heart of Napa Valley. Founded in 1998 by Dave & Emily Miner along with his folks Ed & Norma, Miner is defined first and foremost by a sensational portfolio of wines, wines consistently characterized by and committed to individualistic style and uncommon quality. In only a few short years, Miner has identified, sought and secured a number of California’s finest vineyard sites to produce and showcase a wide array of varietals. Each wine is crafted in a style to encapsulate the distinctive elements and the indelible fingerprints of their respective vineyards. This combination of excellent vineyard sites along with passionate and thoughtful winemaking injects the necessary components for creating profoundly joyful wines. Miner is also very much about people. It’s no secret to those in the know that the Miners have strived to and succeeded in surrounding themselves with the very best in the business. From the uncompromising talents of winemaker Gary Brookman and his companions in the cellar, to the fine folks in the tasting room, sales department and beyond, Dave & Emily have assembled a youthful and serious team of passionate and dedicated players. Just as faithfully committed are the numerous distributors, restaurant, retail partners and loyal fanatics that also faithfully share in Miner’s vision and commitment to quality matched by a burning passion for great food and wine. It is this level of determination, trust, passion and the occasional bit of hedonism that serves as the driving force behind each and every bottle of Miner. The wings of the Miner label also serve as an homage to family, heritage and place. Dave’s grandfather arrived in this country from Persia in 1914. His ancestry, tracing back numerous generations, leads to the people, culture and heritage of ancient Assyria. When Dave first bottled wine under his family’s name he looked to the roots of this family ancestry for inspiration. The Miner Family wine label is based on an ancient Assyrian relief in the image of a Winged Sun God. This symbol represents the brilliant light of the sun, which illuminates the life of mankind while providing energy and warmth to the grapevines. It also represents abundance and prosperity and brought life and health to the vines of the family’s distant ancestors. It is the hope that Miner Family Vineyards and those who enjoy their wines, will prosper with this good fortune for many years to come. On behalf of Miner Family Vineyards, we welcome all of you to join us in our ongoing search for bottled nirvana. To those that have and continue to support us along the way and to those who are trusting us now for a new discovery, we offer a humble debt of gratitude and a sincere thanks. Without you we are not.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Impressions of sweet black cherry and blueberry with mocha, cedar and some spice characteristics. Supple, well-balanced, focused -this Cabernet Sauvignon seduces you with its firm yet velvety tannins and a finish that lingers for minutes. Identifiably Oakville in character, this wine’s potential is limitless.
  Cabernet Sauvignon - Oakville
Not for the faint of heart, our newest vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon is out-of-this-world opulent. A condensed harvest with lower than average yields in 2002 resulted in great fruit intensity in Oakville. A balance between power and finesse, Miner Cabernet is well worth cellaring...and certainly drinking well now. More limited than ever with fewer than 1,800 cases made.
  Chardonnay, Napa Valley
Using fruit from our four favorite Napa Valley vineyards, the 2004 Chardonnay is well-polished package. Spiced pear, melon and hazelnut notes are all tied together with toasty vanilla. With a winemaking approach that prizes balance and elegance over excess, we continue to make one of the most food-friendly, premium California Chardonnays on the market.
  Chardonnay, Wild Yeast
Alluringly subtle vanilla, a dash of nutmeg and baked pear are just a few of the aromas adding to the complexity of our 2002 Wild Yeast Chardonnay. Only indigenous yeast cultures are used in the making of this wine, which gracefully sails through 100% malolactic while retaining its vital acidity. The result is a barrel fermented wine of unbelievable freshness, richness, flavor and length. Truly a sensual experience. Take your Chardonnay habit to a whole new level.
  Merlot
View Enlarged Image Miner’s anything but ordinary Merlot merges Oakville’s classic fruit intensity with Stagecoach Vineyard’s characteristic complexity. Our two hillside vineyard sources located along the eastern hills of Napa Valley allow us to make structured, balanced wines with firm, velvety tannins and pleasant acidity. Gorgeous dark fruit flavors with notes of mocha and smoky oak lead into a long, lush finish.
  Merlot, Oakville Ranch Vineyard
Not to be outdone by its Bordeaux-based brother, our Oakville Merlot is a tour de force. Merlot, meaning "young blackbird" in French, alludes to the grape's stunning dark-blue color and as seen here, results in a wine that is striking to the eye and plush on the palate. With mild herbaceous notes and earthy undertones, our Merlot is old-world in style, but by no means meek. Fruit-driven and full-bodied with a massive finish. The 2000 Merlot leaves an indelible mark that is undeniably Oakville. Focused and unafraid.
  Merlot, Stagecoach Vineyard
Challenged by the rocky volcanic soils of this mountainous vineyard site, the vines at Stagecoach produce fruit of extraordinary quality and intensity. This meticulously farmed property is hand-picked according to our winemaker Gary Brookman’s specifications. Aromas of freshly roasted coffee and cassis surround a ripe, supple core with flavors black cherry, cedar and cocoa...structured and smooth all the way through.
  Petite Sirah
Simultaneously smooth, bold and unabashed, while dried dark fruit flavors swirl on the palate - ripe plum, black cherry and a touch of pepper spice. Closer in style to those big mountain-grown Zins than some slightly less brazen Syrahs, our Petite Sirah is brooding, teeth-staining and packs plenty of tannins. This no nonsense red has a reputation for being resolute both in character and longevity. Even when paired with the most robust cheeses you’ll be asking for more... please!
  Pinot Noir, Garys' Vineyard
From Santa Lucia’s celebrated soils comes our newest Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir - another finely crafted classic from Miner. Smoked meat greets cedar box aromas on the nose, while white pepper, tea spice and rose petals play whimsically on the palate. Chocolate-covered fruit and baking spice add to this complex array of flavors that tantalize the senses. Well-balanced with perfect acidity and a beautifully bold finish, the ‘03 Garys’ is a shinning example from this oh-so hot Pinot wonderland.
  Pinot Noir, Rosella's Vineyard
Located only a short distance from the great Garys' Vineyard, Rosella's Vineyard yields fruit of the same high caliber. Rosella's deliciously dark fruit characteristics and just as nice spice and acidity find balance and harmony on the palate.
  Rosato
Our Rosato, a dry fermented, medium-bodied rosé of Sangiovese, has acquired an amazingly devout following. Made using traditional French methodology, the juice is spends 72 hours in contact with the red skins. The resulting brilliant magenta-hued wine is not meant for meek and not at all cloying. A perfect poolside companion that pairs well warm weather fare (think prosciutto wrapped melon or shrimp on the bbq). Drink now, and drink icy cold for earth-shattering enjoyment.
  Sangiovese, Gibson Ranch Vineyard
Our Sangiovese grapes are picked from a pristine, third generation vineyard in Mendocino, lovingly farmed by a fella named Bob Gibson. Bob’s fine fruit and Gary’s winemaking talent merge to create this garnet colored Cal-Ital that’s chock full of vanilla-cherry flavors with a touch of dried thyme, rose petals and cedar box aromas. Balanced with just the right amount of bright acidity, making this wine the perfect foil for almost any food. Bring on the Bolognese!
  Sauvignon Blanc
New release!
  Syrah
This mountain-grown Syrah delivers enticing aromas of dried herbs and pepper spice that give way to flavors of ripe blackberry fruit and earthy gaminess on the palate. Backed by generous firm tannins, this wine has just the right amount of boldness, which calls out for flavorful fare (think braised lamb shank). Enjoy this wine now through 2009. 1676 cases made Appellation: 100% Napa Valley Varietal Content: 97% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, 3%Grenache Barel Aging: 14 months 40% New French Oak Release Date: August 2005
The Oracle- Napa Valley Red Wine
Our new signature Napa Valley Red epitomizes the elegance of the old world but was meticulously crafted for the modern palate. With a velvet mouth feel and subtle spice and earth nuances, this Bordeaux Blend displays a refined fusion of cedar box and tobacco aromas, rose petal and concentrated black fruit characteristics. Beautifully balanced with harmonious floavors that intermingle on the palate with utter finesse. The Oracle envelops the senses, captivates, and entices you back to the glass for more... pure molten pleasure.
the Oracle- Napa Valley Red Wine

  Viognier, Simpson Vineyard
Intensely tropical and fresh, ripe and racy--a wine designed for summertime sipping or anytime enjoyment. With glowing lucidity, a nose full of honeysuckle blossoms and plush peach tones, this Viognier finishes with a refreshing tang that won’t disappoint its fans (and will surely convert the cynical).Whole cluster pressed to perfection and stainless steel fermented… always delicious. 3,332 Cases Stainless Steel Fermented 100 % California 100% Viognier 14.3% alcohol Simpson Vineyard, California Release May 1, 2005
  Zinfandel
Our Zin program is essentially an homage to the old school style whereby wines are crafted in a jammy, food friendly and altogether heart-warming way. Completely eschewing the current rage for infinite extraction and mouth searing alcoholic bionics, our Zin seeks an exuberant partnership with the mouth filling, robust San Francisco cuisine. Selected from two very distinct vineyards, one near Calistoga, the other in Chiles Valley and finished with a dollop of Petite Sirah, this wine exudes youthful aromatics of clove, cinnamon and tobacco backed by fruit flavors of wild raspberry and strawberry. By all means, order up the Cioppino and drink with Zinful abandon!
