Graeser Winery

Graeser Winery Leaning against a stack of barrels in the cellar, Richard Graeser is a man obviously in love with his surroundings and craft. "My second vintage was selected Wine of the Week by the LA Times. That was 13 years ago, but I knew even then that I was doing something right!" Since then, the Diamond Mountain District, where the vineyards sit, have gained recognition as one of the world's premier appellations for growing Bordeaux varietals and Graeser Winery has evolved into a world class winery. We take a very traditional approach to winemaking. We believe that winemaking happens largely in the vineyard and the least amount of manipulation allows the grapes from this unique place speak for themselves. Because we are small, we are able to make wine very gently; we use small open top fermentors and American/French oak barrels. Our wines are generally medium to full bodied wines with classic Bordeaux dimension and flavors. The fruit is lush, bright and detailed and the tannins are unusually refined for Diamond Mountain fruit. The style is elegant rather than overblown or extracted and because of this they make the perfect companion to wide range of foods. This hands on attention to detail in the vineyard and winery result in wines that gets better with each vintage.

  Alex’s Ruff Red Table Wine
Alex’s Ruff Red is a featured wine in our “Outside the Boundaries” series. The 2002 version is a snappy blend of 80% Zinfandel, 20% Cab Franc. This wine is a crowd pleaser with ripe red fruit and berry aromas lifting up with a wonderful cinnamon or Holiday spice mixed in. Built for pure, easy enjoyment, the “02” is medium bodied and full flavored. Wonderful berry, cherry, red currant, and that trademark spice throughout. The lively feel and smart finish make it the perfect choice at the table, where it will dutifully compliment a wide variety of foods, from pasta and risotto to grilled meats and stews.
  Cabernet Franc, Estate
Our Cabernet Franc is 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Our 2002 Cabernet Franc may be one of our best vintages since the magnificent 1992 Cabernet Franc, which has just reached its peak this year. Something about this grape just loves our steep little corner of Diamond Mountain. The 2002 displays rich raspberry color, a rich perfume and blackberry patch spice. The flavors follow through with ripe black raspberry, plum and crushed pepper with just the right amount of new oak to show off the spicy character in the finish. The refined tannin and brilliant acidity throughout make this the perfect choice at mealtime. This wine will benefit from 5-15 years of cellaring. Gold Medal Winner!!

  Coeur De Leon, Estate
50% Cabernet Franc 35% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Proprietary red!! 2002 was a great vintage for us here on Diamond Mountain; we think that 2002 will be as good or better than our legendary 1992, which is fabulous right now. The nose is dusty cherry and coffee with a hint of leather. There is a slight hibiscus with blackberries note, plum and cassis. For those wine lovers who prefer the elegance and dimension of classic Bordeaux reds, look no further. Blended for completeness and complexity, we use the best lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from estate fruit to achieve our goal. The 2002 exhibits delicious blackberry, cherry and dark chocolate flavors that lead to a spicy vanilla rich finish. The Coeur de Leon is our special occasion wine, suitable for the most elegant meals and a perfect candidate for cellaring. We hope that it finds its way to your cellar and that you have many special occasions! It will drink beautifully for 15 years or more.
