Turley Wine Cellars

In May of 2000 Turley Wine Cellars purchased Pesenti Winery, which is located in Templeton, California, for the 80-year-old Zinfandel vines on the property. The sight of the old gnarled Zinfandel vines running down the steep slopes of this old vineyard attracted Larry Turley and Ehren Jordan to the Paso Robles area, which has been receiving more and more recognition as an up-and-coming wine region. The original winery now houses state-of- the-art winemaking equipment, the tasting room has had a face-lift and a tremendous amount of energy has been spent improving viticulture practices. This newly updated facility allows for natural winemaking techniques encouraging the intensely concentrated grapes to reveal their true character. The vineyard itself is an amazing site and perfect for the cultivation of Zinfandel. Planted on poor limestone soils with good drainage, the marine influence permits the grapes to stay on the vine for a longer period of time. Temperatures can drop significantly in the evenings and as a result the grapes ripen at a slower rate. Complex flavors and natural grape sugars are in perfect balance with the grape’s acid levels. The resulting wines are deep in color, intense in flavor and full-bodied. The first Turley wine to be produced from this vineyard is the 2000 Turley “Pesenti Vineyard” Zinfandel, which is available in the tasting room along with other Turley wines and merchandise. Feel free to call us, our friendly, knowledgeable staff would be happy to help you plan a visit to the beautiful, relaxing Central Coast.
